Stats

Clive, as a cavalry, has high movement range similar to Berkut. However, unlike Berkut, he performs more as a physical tank due to his high DEF. His RES is terribly low, making him vulnerable against Tome users. Even a Red Tome User like Raigh can take him out. However, he makes up for having high ATK being able to charge down strong Red Sword enemies such as Lucina or Red Tome users like Celica and Katarina.

Strategy

Clive appears more as a physical tank than all around in comparison to Berkut. His ability to reduce damage using Escutcheon is quite helpful especially against heroes who use Daggers and Bows. He also has similar uses to Eliwood save for that the latter has Durandal, granting him an ATK buff every time he attacks.

There are two ways to build around Clive. One way to build around him is to make use of his heavy physical defense by granting him Bonfire as a special attack instead of using Escutcheon. However, this weakens his ability to tank but grants him more combat power especially when paired with his Defense buffs. Players can also opt to use Distant Counter and Quick Riposte to help him take down the incoming tome enemies, allowing him to exploit their already dreadful defense.

Another is using him as a debuff/buff tower. He can either use Ward Cavalry to boost Def and Res of Cavalry Units if the player intends to build a Cavalry team. Another is using Threaten Def to have him mess around with the defense of the enemies, allowing other players to attack. However, he can also utilize Threaten Spd to gain the upper hand over enemies. Threaten Res can also work to give the tomes behind Clive a chance to kill an enemy.

Clive works best with heroes that can also boost his Res to balance him out. Some of these units include Berkut, Anna, Niles, and Tharja.

Counter

  • Mathilda – Mathilda has Ridersbane which deals heavy damage against Cavalry units. She also is a Cavalry unit herself which allows her to chase Clive easily around the battlefield.
  • CeciliaCecilia can deal heavy damage to Clive due to his low Res. If Clive does not have Distant Counter and Quick Riposte, she can quickly throw him out of the battlefield.
  • HectorHector can easily absorb and out-tank Clive in terms of defense. He also has Distant Counter which can chew him out.
  • Raigh – Raigh’s weapon deals extra damage against Cavalry units.
