Merric is a green tome unit with the durability to defend himself from melee attacks. His usefulness is however limited because of his Resistance and Speed and lackluster Attack and Speed. However he finds his niche as a counter against fliers due to his built in Weapon. His usefulness is unfortunately limited as he requires sacrificing multiple units to pass Skills in order to help him achieve his maximum potential.

Strategy

Merric boasts a high Defense and HP, stats which deal with physical-oriented units, a trait he shares with Boey. Taking consideration of his weapon, he has the potential to function as an anti-flier unit.

Due to his stat distribution, he fulfills a better role in sponging attacks rather than dealing them and requires some support from buff spreads to be of use. If Skill inheritance is at play, Merric requires a generous investment similar to Soren, among these include attaining Close Counter. With this passive, he not only sponges 1-range attacks but can deal some chip damage if unbuffed, or deal decent amounts if buffed. By giving him Wings of Mercy 3, this allows Merric to shield certain low HP allies from being knocked out by fliers.

Despite his defense, he does not fare well when dueling against fellow magicians because of his poor Resistance. Apart from that, his Attack stat does not do him any good either as it prevents him from scoring ORKOs.

He appreciates buff support from units such as Ephraim to deal decent damage. Merric can also pair with Dancer/Singers to put himself at the front line to defend more Defensively-frail allies from approaching enemy attacks. To compensate for Merric’s abysmal Resistance, units like Sanaki and Mae can deal with other tome units with their competitive stats while checking the respective colors advantages that these foes exert.

Counter

  • His problematic Resistance makes him a bait for tome units, making them efficient counters whether they may be Green or Red ones.
  • Sanaki – When seen in the battlefield, Sanaki easily absorbs Merric’s attacks and retaliate back tremendous amounts of damage with her Passive and color advantage.
  • Soren – Being a faster variant of his defensive cousin, Soren can ORKO him if he happens to carry the Blade tome.
