Boey appears as one of Celica‘s companions in Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. Along with Mae, Boey accompanies Celica on her journey to find Alm and Mila. He lived in the temple of Mila for awhile before leaving to protect Celica along with Mae and Genny. In Fire Emblem Heroes, he returns as a Green Tome.

Stats

Boey has a pretty decent attack for a 4☆. And surprisingly, he can take in more physical damage than he can magical damage. Unlike most tome users, Boey can soak up physical damage as he continues to increase his power. One of the signature moves he uses, Glowing Ember, displays the level of his physical defense. Even if attacked by a bow-user, he can take in damage which allows him to counter attack.

Strategy

Boey is, and possibly the best, physical defensive Green Tome tank. He can soak up physical damage unlike most tome users with Earth Boost and his weapon, Gronnowl. Not only that, he also has Renewal which makes him increasingly deadly against other physical hitters. Because of Gronnowl’s effect and Earth Boost, even Red/Swords may have difficulty in beating Boey because of his heavy defense.

One of the most basic passive skills to pass to him is Threaten Res. As a tome, he can make the most out of this passive ability. Another is Threaten ATK which allows him to utilize his defense or resistance effectively. Savage Blow may work as well as not only can he soak up damage but enemies will suffer a penalty every time they attack him. While his attack may be slightly lower than most tomes, he’s known more to counter-attack similarly to Sophia. Unlike Sophia however, he does not need to rely on Skill Inheritance and can enter the battle with his own skills.

Characters such as Berkut can pair up with him. Using the Ward Buff Build of Berkut, he can grant additional Res if the Res Buff is not restricted only to cavalry units. Another is Azama on a plain-jane build in which the player uses Solid Earth Balm to reinforce Boey’s already terrifying Defense.

Counter

• Celica – Celica‘s Ragnarok makes her a terrifying foe. With his already abysmal Res, she can easily burn him into pieces especially at full life. She can constantly keep up the pressure if she also has a pocket healer. However, this can be countered if the player purposely surrounds Boey with all allies to boost his Res.
• Katarina – Katarina‘s Rauørwolf has the same effect as Gronnowl. This can have him completely check out from Katarina‘s incoming attacks. She can easily destroy him especially if accompanied by other allies.
• Lucina – Lucina can has a relatively balanced build which allows her to soak up some damage from Boey for a bit. At the same time, her Falchion also heals her every three turns.
• Kagero – Kagero’s Poison Dagger deals extra damage to infantry units and an additional 4 damage every time the battle concludes.
• Young Tiki – Young Tiki’s stats are also quite balanced and she can deal heavy damage especially with her weapon, Flametongue, at max level.
