How to Recruit Byleth

Upon beginning the mission, progress through the objectives Byleth appears. Afterwards, simply retreat to the starting location (do not pursue Byleth). Then, simply focus on your main mission objectives as normal and ignore Arval’s suggestion to engage Byleth.

A new enemy will then appear in the far end of the map which will trigger a secret side mission. Head to the area and defeat the new enemy (Randolph) before Byleth reaches it to recruit him/her. Jeralt will also join you upon meeting these conditions.
