Among the new horrors that you will encounter in the upcoming Resident Evil 7: Biohazard are the creatures called the Molded. Samurai Gamers gives you the lowdown on how to take out these monsters based on gameplay from the “Beginning Hour” demo of Resident Evil VII: Biohazard.
Who-or what-are the Molded?
Unlike the undead zombies that are found in Resident Evil games, the Molded are more similar to the mutants in the iconic survival horror franchise. These tall humanoid monsters have a large, gaping mouth with huge teeth filling it. They lack eyes, and have very primitive noses and ears.
What passes for their skin is pitch-black, with elongated arms ending in sharp claws. The arms of the Molded can extend beyond their normal length, giving the creatures more flexibility and range when attacking.
It remains to be seen what the Molded truly are.
Combat strategy for the Molded
The Molded will spawn when the player gains access to the basement of the Dulvey Haunted House. It will spawn when the player approaches the Attic Window Key, or when getting the Valve Handle. The monster will smash through a wall using its arm, inflicting damage to the player in the process. It can also drop down from a vent in the ceiling.
The Molded has two main attacks. It can perform a swing with its arm, dealing a moderate amount of damage to the player. It can also take a bite out of the player’s arm, causing severe to deadly damage.
The Molded can be “defeated” in the demo version of Resident Evil VII in two ways. You can try to escape the creature if you do not have enough firepower to defeat it, or shoot it around five times in the head once you have acquired the M19 Handgun.
The area in which the Molded appears has body bags dangling from the ceiling. The player can kick the body bags to slow the creature down, allowing him to escape the area. The Molded cannot follow the player out the door, instead respawning when the player returns to the area. This technique can only be done once. The Molded can also roll back to its feet quickly when it gets knocked down.
As mentioned, the second method requires the player having the M19 Handgun. Hit the creature with five well-placed shots to the head to slow it down. Be careful though, as it will retaliate after the first shot hits it. After dealing sufficient damage to it, the Molded will automatically retreat, but can attack the player at random.
