Post-Game Unlockables [Resident Evil 7/ RE7]

This page contains information on unlockable features after clearing the game for Resident Evil 7 for the first time.

Resident Evil 7 has some very interesting features that are unlocked after clearing the main story. Two of them become available after clearing the game on any difficulty setting, while others have more specific conditions you need to satisfy to obtain them.

Post-Game Unlockables

After clearing the main story of Resident Evil 7 for the first time, players will unlock a new difficulty setting called “Madhouse“, as well as the Albert-01R Handgun. Here are two of the post-game unlockables available after finishing the Resident Evil 7 once on any difficulty setting.

Madhouse Difficulty

Players who’ve breezed through the game on the default difficulty settings are in for a challenge in Madhouse mode. This game mode does more than do away with holding your hand with healing items and ammo aplenty, and the reasonable amount of enemies lurking in a certain area. Fighting bosses will also feel very different, if not outright unfamiliar from their weaker versions on easier difficulty configurations.

Below is a summary of what’s different in Madhouse:

  • Health will not regenerate
  • Healing items and ammo are more scarce than ever
  • Enemies are faster, are greater in number and can appear in previously uninhabited areas
  • Saving will now require the use of casette tapes at save rooms
  • There is less opportunity for the game to automatically save

Albert-01R Handgun

The Albert-01R Handgun is a uniquely powerful handgun that is temporarily usable in the main story, though only for a very short time. The name of the gun is an obvious throwback to arguably the most iconic villain in the RE franchise. Once you’ve beaten the game, the handgun will be available for use in your next playthrough for use at the start of the game. It has considerable firepower, enough to blow out the head or limbs of most Molded in a single shot.

Several more equipment are unlocked after meeting certain requirements during your playthrough.

Secrets of Defense

The Secrets of Defense is a mysterious scroll that reduces damage you take from enemies while guarding. However, it requires you to have the scroll in your inventory in order to enjoy the boost in defense. To unlock the Secrets of Defense, you have to beat the game on Normal difficulty.

Essence of Defense

When used with the Secrets of Defense, it increases the effectiveness of the damage reduced. This is also unlocked upon clearing the game on Normal difficulty.

Fast Shoes

The Fast Shoes increases your overall walking speed, and is excellent for doing speedruns. You must also have it in your inventory for the boost to take effect. To obtain Running Shoes, you must finish the game in 4 hours or less.

X-Ray Glasses

The X-Ray Glasses allows you to see items hidden in the area with a similar effect as having used a Psychostimulant. To get the X-Ray Glasses, you must use at most 3 recovery items in a single playthrough.

Circular Saw

A powerful melee weapon, though it suffers from very slow attack speed. To obtain the Circular Saw, you need to beat the game in 4 hours or less.

Infinite Fuel Chainsaw

Chainsaw with unlimited Fuel. To obtain the Infinite Fuel Chainsaw, you need to beat the game on Madhouse difficulty under 6 hours, and have successfully obtained all Mr. Everywhere figurines.

Infinite Ammo

As it says on the tin, this give you infinite ammo for all firearms. To unlock Infinite Ammo, you need to beat the game on Madhouse difficulty.
