Final Fantasy X / X-2 - How to Obtain Tidus’ Caladbolg

A guide on how to obtain Caladbolg, Tidus' Celestial Weapon in Final Fantasy X. Included are the weapon's abilities and required materials to fully enhance it.

FFX How to Obtain Caladbolg

Tidus Caladbolg is a physical attack-focused weapon that features powerful counter abilities. It is obtained by completing the Chocobo training side quests at the Calm Lands and beating the Chocobo trainer’s time in a race.

After winning the race, head to the northwest part of the Calm Lands down a small path which was previously blocked by a man standing there. Continue walking until you reach an altar. Examine the altar to obtain Caladbolg. Note that you must have already obtained the Celestial Mirror to do this.

FFX How to Obtain Caladbolg

The Caladbolg’s base version only has the No AP ability when first obtained. You will need to enhance the weapon with the Sun Crest and Sun Sigil to bring out its full potential.

Sun Crest

FFX How to Obtain Caladbolg

After defeating Yunalesca at Zanarkand Ruins, head to the chest just before the stairs to get the Sun Crest. If you did not obtain it immediately after the battle with Yunalesca, you will need to defeat Dark Bahamut when you return to the location to get the crest.

Sun Sigil

FFX How to Obtain Caladbolg

The Sun Sigil is obtained by racing the Chocobo trainer and getting a time of 0:00 at the end of the course. This is only possible by collecting as many balloons as you can to reduce your current running time by three seconds. It is also important to avoid getting hit by any birds along the way.

Caladbolg Abilities

Return to the shining path at Lake Macalania and offer the Sun Crest and Sun Sigil to enhance Caladbolg. Below are the abilities the weapon will have for each of its versions.

Base
  • No AP: Prevents Tidus from gaining AP in battle.
First Enhancement (Sun Crest)
  • No AP: Prevents Tidus from gaining AP in battle.
  • Double Overdrive: Charges Tidus’ Overdrive at double the speed.
Second Enhancement (Sun Sigil)
  • Break Damage Limit: Allows Tidus to do more than 9,999 damage in an attack.
  • Triple Overdrive: Charges Tidus’ Overdrive at triple the speed.
  • Evade & Counter: Counters all physical attacks on Tidus and has a chance to evade incoming damage.
  • Magic Counter: Counters all magic attacks on Tidus.
