Are There Any Weapons in Forspoken?
No weapons based on the demo and official gameplay trailers.
While yet to be confirmed, it seems that Forspoken will not feature any obtainable weapons throughout its main story campaign. The main character, Frey Holland, does not appear to rely on any conventional armaments and instead use only magic during combat sections based on the game’s playable demo and released trailers.
The apparent absence of physical weapons is somewhat uncharacteristic for an action role-playing title from Square Enix. Forspoken, however, still includes melee combat for players who prefer to engage foes up close.
“Magic” Armaments
Throughout the game, Frey will gain access to a massive arsenal of spells, some of which function very similarly to blades, polearms, and other common armaments within the fantasy genre. These are in addition to other magical abilities that allow Frey to damage foes from a distance or within a wide radius.
What is Forspoken?
Forspoken is an open-world action role-playing game that follows the adventures of Frey, a young woman from New York City who is transported to the mysterious world of Athia. Sometime after Frey’s arrival, she awakens her magical powers, allowing her to quickly traverse the vast landscapes of Athia and fend off hordes of demonic entities throughout her journey to return home.
A “Narrative-Driven Adventure”
Forspoken is described as a “narrative-driven adventure” by game director Takeshi Aramaki with emphasis on Frey’s abilities that grant her amazing mobility to move around the massive world of Athia. Using the performance of current-generation platforms (Playstation 5 and PC), Forspoken allows players to experience the freedom of traversing Athia’s terrain with speed and fluidity never before seen in previous action role-playing titles.
