Battle Arena Guide for Like A Dragon: Ishin

The Battle Arena is an optional area in Like A Dragon: Ishin! (LAD Ishin/Yakuza: Ishin) which lets you participate in two types of special battle modes to obtain various rewards, including crafting materials and money. Clearing any of the battle modes also rewards you with arena balls, a currency used to redeem  prizes at the arena exchange.

How to Unlock the Battle Arena

The Battle Arena is unlocked in Chapter 2 of the main story which requires you to gain access to Mukurogai. Note that the enemies in the Battle Arena are quite formidable so it is recommended to come back later and attempt the two battle modes once you have unlocked more skills and acquired better gear.

Arena Battle Modes

Knockout Battle Mode

Knockout Battle Mode lets you fight a gauntlet of 5 opponents one-on-one. The battle ends when your HP is reduced to zero. Keep in mind that your health does not recover after each round so it is recommended to take as little damage as possible to clear the gauntlet.

Each enemy you face in the Knockout Battle has a chance of dropping a crafting material, making this battle mode a good way to farm for items you need to forge new weapons (swords and guns).

Winning 2 rounds in a row doubles the prize money and balls you get. The rewards are tripled if you clear 3 in a row, multiplied to 5 if you clear 4, and multiplied by 10 if you clear all 5.

Knockout Battle Arenas

There are 7 types of Knockout Battle arenas according to the enemy team’s fighting style. Below is a list of all Battle Arenas in the game, including all enemies encountered in each arena, opponent’s weapon and fighting style, dropped items, and rewards for clearing.

Note that the Mighty Arena can only be unlocked once you have cleared all Wanted Men bounties, Ginryu’s training, and Komaki’s training.

Tips for Clearing Arena Battles

Use Gunman Style for Knockout Battle Mode.

It is generally recommended to use Gunman Style against all opponents encountered in Knockout Battles. Since you do not recover HP after each battle, being able to hit enemies safely from a distance will let you avoid taking too much damage in preparation for the next round.

Like A Dragon: Ishin Best Combat Styles Guide

Try to obtain a strong pistol weapon like the Golden Gun, Double Flash, or even the powerful Dragon Hawk to go through each challenge smoothly. The only real challenge in the entire Knockout Battle Mode is William Bradley. When taking him on, try to have Extreme Slip (Gunman), Bullet Avoidance (Swordsman) and Extreme Matchlock Bind (Brawler) to help you minimize the hits he lands on you while being able to retaliate with your own attack before he recovers.

Use Wild Dancer for Endurance Battle Mode.

Using the Wild Dancer Style is your best chance of getting the best results in Endurance Battle Mode. The style is well suited for fighting groups of enemies and extending your combo count for as long as possible.

Use Talisman of the Gods to recover HP while standing.

Try to equip the Talisman of the Gods (head armor) to increase survivability during Endurance Battle Mode. You can craft the headband using Willpower Seal x1, Jet-Black Belt x1, Wild Silk x15, and Famous Horse’s Mane x10 at the blacksmith.
