Fishing Spots

There are a total of four fishing spots in the game which are the Uji river at Fushimi, the river Kamogawa River at Mukurogai, by the reef shore, and off the coast. Note that the last two spots are only accessible by talking to the boatman in the game.

Tips for Fishing

Obtain a good fishing rod from the Shinto Priest’s Virtue exchange shop.

Like A Dragon: Ishin - Fishing Rod

Before you start fishing, try to get a good fishing rod from the Shinto Priest’s exchange shop. You will need a decent amount of Virtues to buy one, though it will be worth it as a high-performance rod will greatly reduce the time it takes you to catch fish. You will also be able to catch fish that are usually found farther along the river, allowing you to land more types of fish in the game.

Purchase bait.

You can increase the chances of rare types of fish to appear by using bait. Note that the effects of using bait are only active for about 3 minutes so only scatter it at the fishing spot when you intend to catch specific types of fish and only when you are using a good fishing rod.

Get familiar with the fish’s silhouette and behavior in the water.

Most fish can be identified just by their silhouette in the water. You should also take note of the part of the river or sea the fish is swimming around along with its behavior (whether it constantly moves about or stays in one place). Try to assess these factors first before casting your line.

Reel in your catch by looking at the visual cues.

Reeling in your catch is done by simply pressing the ○ button when the fish bites. When the fish turns red and begins to poke at your bait, wait for the exact moment your lure sinks (indicating that the fish has taken it) before quickly reeling your catch.
