What hoped to be a field day next week for fans of the Resident Evil series has been marred yet again by leaked copies of its much-awaited seventh installment Resident Evil 7 a week before its intended release on January 24, 2017.

Leaked Copies of RE7 in the Middle East

Unauthorized distribution of the franchise’s hopeful return to “true survival horror” has been sighted today in the Middle East. These include stores in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Qatar. However, these only cover RE7 versions for the Playstation 4 and Xbox One. The PC port enjoys a safe haven until the official release, thanks to the DRM lock implemented by Steam.

Full gameplay footage has already made waves on Twitch. It has now taken websites such as Reddit and 4Chan by storm with spoilers abound. Even footage of the final boss fight and ending have been posted online.

This is not the first time that a highly-anticipated title’s debut was plagued by irresponsible distribution by retail outlets. Just last year, Final Fantasy XV suffered the same fate when leaked copies of the open-world RPG surfaced a week before launch in parts of Europe, much to the disappointment of fans.
