How to Farm Phoenix Downs Guide for Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion
This page contains a guide on how to farm Phoenix Downs for Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion (FFVII CC Remaster/Crisis Core Reunion), including the best ways to get infinite Phoenix Downs, recommended Missions to farm, and other useful tips.
What are Phoenix Downs?
Phoenix Downs are a type of consumable item in Crisis Core: Reunion that automatically revives Zack to full HP when incapacitated (HP depleted to 0). In the remaster and the original Playstation Portable (PSP) release, Phoenix Downs are rare items that cannot be purchased from any shop in the game.
How to Get Phoenix Downs
Obtained from chests.
Phoenix Downs can be obtained from chests found all throughout the main story and during optional Missions. Note that items contained in chests can only be acquired once.
Rewarded for clearing Missions.
You can also get Phoenix Downs as rewards for completing Missions. As with chests, it is not possible to replay Missions to keep getting the same rewards.
Stolen from enemies.
Phoenix Downs can also be stolen from enemies using the Steal command. This is currently the only way to farm Phoenix Downs in the game as you can simply redo Missions you have completed to farm enemies for the item.
Phoenix Down Farming Guide
Mission 9-6-5: Mock Trooper B
A good way to farm Phoenix Downs is to steal from the Mock Trooper B enemies in Mission 9-6-5. Be sure to have the Steal Materia equipped to use the Steal command. It is also recommended to use the Brigand’s Glove accessory to grant Zack 100% steal success rate.
Mission 9-6-6: Minerva (does not work anymore – to be confirmed)
In the PSP release of the game, it was possible to easily farm Phoenix Downs from the superboss Minerva by going into the fight, stealing as many of the item as you can, then let her kill you with her Judgement Arrow attack. In Crisis Core: Reunion, it seems that this method is no longer viable as you will not be able to keep stolen items from enemies after dying during Missions. More information on this is currently being researched so please check back for updates.
The remaster seems to be based off the Japanese version of PSP era Crisis Core, as such it can be assumed that the tendency of the game to reset you to pre-mission status upon failing/forfeiting a mission is entirely intentional and unlikely to be “fixed” to the way it was in the English release.
That said, I do hope they end up patching the zero AP/MP overwrites zero AP/MP infinity bug one day…
Can confirm that Phoenix Downs do not appear in your inventory after dying or forfeiting the Minerva mission. Grinding is about to become a lot harder!
