How to Unlock
Unlocked in Chapter 4
The Materia pick-up mini-game becomes available in Chapter 4 after you retrieve your wallet from the boy in Sector 5 slums. To access the mini-game, talk to the male Attendant in the market area.
Once you have unlocked the materia pick-up mini-game in Chapter 4, try to clear it with the best time before leaving for Nibelheim in Chapter 9. Since you will not be able to return to Shinra HQ after leaving Midgar, not clearing it and going to Nibelheim will cause you to permanently miss out on getting the Godlike (Bronze trophy) achievement for the duration of the playthrough.

Mechanics
The Materia pick-up mini-game simply requires you to collect all 20 Materia scattered around the slums market at the fastest time possible.
Time Records and Rewards
Below is a list of all target times for the mini-game and the rewards obtained for each record. Prizes come in the form of money (Gil) as well as increases in your Affection for Aerith.

Materia Pick-Up Mini Game Tips
Try to collect Materia in a single route while mashing the X button.
You will take more time if you travel back and forth between opposite ends of the Market to pick up individual Materia. Because of this, you grab the items in a single route as much as possible. It is also recommended to press the X button repeatedly to ensure that you do not fail to pick up the Materia while moving around the area.

Around 13-15 seconds seems to be the 100 Gil payment
