How to Unlock
Progress to Chapter 5
The Squats mini-game becomes available after reaching Chapter 5 of the game’s main story. Talk to the Shinra researcher at the SOLDIER floor in Shinra HQ to access it.
Once you have unlocked the Squats mini-game in Chapter 5, try to clear all battles to obtain rewards before leaving for Nibelheim in Chapter 9. Since you will not be able to return to Shinra HQ after leaving Midgar, not clearing it and going to Nibelheim will cause you to permanently miss out on the mini-games rewards that are required to complete the Flower Wagon side quest tied to this mini-game. You will also not be able to unlock the Shinra’s Squats Champion (Bronze trophy) and Midgar Full of Flowers (Silver trophy) achievements for the duration of the playthrough.

Mechanics
The Squats mini-game requires you to perform as many squats as you can within the time limit against an opponent. To do a squat, you must simply press the action button (△ on the Playstation 4 and Playstation 5) at the right time.
Opponents and Rewards
There are four (4) opponents you will have to beat in the Squats mini-game in order of difficulty which is listed below.
Battle No. | Opponent | Reward |
---|---|---|
1 | Shinra Soldier | Shinra Lunch Cart Specs |
2 | Shinra Soldier Captain | Shinra Ceramic |
3 | SOLDIER 3rd Class | Shinra Treads |
4 | SOLDIER 2nd Class | Shinra Solder |
Defeating each rival lets you earn rewards which can be used to build Aerith’s third and final Flower Wagon to clear the Flower Wagon sub-event before leaving Midgar and traveling to Nibelheim.

After clearing all Squats battles, you will be able to replay the mini-game and challenge any opponent you like, though you will no longer receive the same rewards.
Squats Mini Game Tips
Speed increases after every 5 successful squats.
The speed required to input the action button increases each time you successfully perform 5 consecutive squats. Try to count the squats you do by 5 to help you adjust your rhythm during the mini-game.
Do not mind the remaining time.
Worrying about how much time is left may cause you to press the action button too fast and mistime the squat. Always focus on the rhythm to avoid messing up regardless of the how much time is left.
