Game Overview
Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (Pokemon BDSP) is a remake of the original Pokemon Diamond and Pearl versions released on the Nintendo DS in 2007. Dubbed as a faithful reproduction of the fourth generation title which saw the addition of 107 new Pokemon species, Pokemon BDSP boasts new player-friendly features with modern elements of recent games in the series.
New and Updated Features
Grand Underground
Pokemon BDSP lets players explore the Grand Underground, a vastly upgraded version of the original versions’ The Underground area.
Using the Explorer Kit, you will be able to explore the Grand Underground to dig for treasures and Pokemon fossils. You can also set-up your very own Secret Base in the Grand Underground.
Pokemon Hideaways are also found in the Grand Underground. These areas have varying terrain and conditions which are home for Pokemon that cannot be found anywhere else.
It is also possible to explore the Grand Underground with other players using local or online communication. This allows you to engage in fun activities with friends both near and from far away.
Super Contest Shows
You can enter various Super Contest Shows with your Pokemon to perform in front of the Sinnoh Crowd. There are five contest categories that you can choose to join which are Coolness, Cuteness, Beauty, Toughness, and Cleverness.
To win Super Contest Shows, you must accumulate Hype Points during the Visual Evaluation, Dance Evaluation, and Move Evaluation stages. The show is deemed a success if the combined Hype Points of all performers reaches the target score.
Poffins
You can make snacks called Poffins to raise the Cuteness, Coolness, and your Pokemon’s other conditions before you enter the Super Contest Shows. Giving Poffins to your Pokemon allow you to gain an advantage during the Visual Evaluation stages.
The likelihood of raising your Pokemon’s condition by feeding them Poffins depends on your cooking skills. When making the Poffins, it is important to stir the pot at just the right speed while preventing the ingredients from overflowing or getting burnt.
Amity Square
The Amity Square is a place to spend time playing with your Pokemon. Up to six Pokemon can come with you at the square. Here, you watch your Pokemon play and relax, call them together by whistling, and take photos with them for your album.
After visiting the Amity Square, you will be able to walk with one of your Pokemon as you travel the Sinnoh region. You can also talk to your Pokemon and watch their behavior while on the road together.
Capsule Decorations
Capsule decorations are cosmetic effect stickers that appear whenever you send your Pokemon out during battles or Super Contest Shows. There are more than 90 stickers in the game that can be obtained by purchasing them from shops, holding successful Super Contest Shows, and even defeating Gym Leaders.
Day and Night Cycle
Pokemon BDSP features a constant day and night cycle which affects various aspects of the game. The type of Pokemon that appear in the wild, for instance, change depending on the time of day. There are also Pokemon who will only be able to evolve during certain periods between night and day.
Some shops in the game will change the items they have on sale on certain dates, making it worthwhile to visit them as often as possible during the adventure.
