How to Unlock the National Pokedex in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

The National Pokedex is an unlockable feature in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (Pokemon BDSP). It allows you to encounter Pokemon from other generations, particularly in the Grand Underground.

Where to Get the National Pokedex

Obtained from Professor Oak in Pal Park after Seeing all 151 Sinnoh Region Pokemon

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl - National Pokedex

The National Pokedex is obtained from Professor Oak at Ramanas Park after you have encountered all 151 Pokemon in the Sinnoh region (thus completing your Sinnoh Pokedex). This is no easy feat as you are may need to scour new areas unlocked after beating the game to find Pokemon you have not seen yet. The Poke Radar is also given by Professor Rowan which is a useful tool for hunting Shiny Pokemon in the game.

How to Get the Poke Radar

Note that you do not need to capture all Pokemon in the Sinnoh Pokedex to obtain the National Mode. You simply need to have encountered them in the wild or during trainer battles to have them registered.

What to Do After Getting the National Pokedex

Catch Gen 1 to 4 Starter Pokemon in the Ground Underground

Starter Pokemon from generations 1 to 4 of the series will begin to appear in the different elemental biomes of Grand Underground after you have acquired the National Pokedex. The underground Pokemon hideaways of the Fight Area, which can only be accessed after beating the game, is home to all Gen 1 to 4 starters so head there if you have not caught them yet.
