What is an Ability Patch?
The Ability Patch is a rare usable item in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (Pokemon BDSP) that changes a Pokemon’s normal Ability into a Hidden Ability. Having the item is particularly advantageous, especially for competitive play. Note that the item will have no effect on Pokemon that do not have any Hidden Abilities to begin with.
Where to Get an Ability Patch
Battle Tower BP Exchange
You can get Ability Patches at the Battle Tower exchange counter for 200 Battle Points (BP) each (which is only accessible after beating the game). Because of how much BP each Ability Patch costs, be sure to carefully decide which Pokemon you want to use the item on. You can also opt to trade in 50 BP points for an Ability Capsule instead which changes a Pokemon’s normal Ability to its other normal one.
Turn Off Autosave Before Using
One important thing to remember when using the item is that once you have used it to change a Standard Ability to a Hidden one, it cannot be reversed. Because of this, it is recommended to turn off the autosave feature beforehand to avoid making any mistakes you cannot undo afterwards.
