Type Chart for Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Below is a type chart for calculating damage based on a Pokemon’s weaknesses and resistances in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (Pokemon BDSP). Move types are indicated in the Y axis (vertical) while Pokemon types are shown in the X axis (horizontal).

Pokemon Type Chart

Damage Square Colors

The resulting damage dealt by specific move types on defending Pokemon is described in more detail in the table below.

Damage Color Details
No Color (White Space) Normal (Defending Pokemon suffers x1 damage due to non-weakness and non-resistance).
Green Super Effective (Defending Pokemon suffers x2 damage due to weakness).
Red Not Very Effective (Defending Pokemon suffers only x0.5 or 1/2  damage due to resistance).
Black No Effect (Defending Pokemon suffers no damage due to immunity).

Factoring Dual Typing

Weakness

The damage inflicted on defending dual-type Pokemon will take into account each of its typings. A Pokemon hit with a damage type that both its typings are weak against will suffer quadruple damage (x4). A Pokemon who is a Bug-Steel type, for example, will take x4 damage from a Fire type move since both Bug and Steel are weak against Fire.

Resistance

Resistances are also calculated in the same manner. For example, when a Fire-Water type Pokemon is hit by a Fire type move, it will only suffer 1/4 (x0.25) damage since both the Pokemon’s Fire and Water typing will each reduce damage taken by 1/2 (x0.5).

It is also important to note that type weaknesses and resistances will cancel each other out. A Bug-Steel Pokemon, for instance, will receive normal damage from Fighting type moves. This is because despite taking x2 damage from Fighting moves because of the Pokemon’s Steel typing, its Bug typing will reduce the resulting damage by 1/2 (x.05).
