Main Quest Walkthrough – Field of the Fallen [Horizon Zero Dawn]

Investigate the Battlefield

If you didn’t start the quest the moment you got, it’s okay. Erend’s still around the area. When you’re going to go for the quest, just fast travel to a campfire nearby the marker. Once you get there, you can make your way towards him. Make your  way towards Red Ridge Pass to meet Erend. However when  you get there, you’ll notice holistic machines. Take them down before chatting with him. There will be a short cutscene before you can continue on with the mission. After that, follow Erend. He’ll soon start walking and chatting about his life. But don’t worry, it’s not like he’s going to give you a long story about how the world began.

Investigate the Battlefield

Upon reaching the battlefield, there are several things you can examine with your Focus.

• Bloodstains
• Thicket
• Spear
• Helmet

When you’re done with that, follow the cart tracks. All the fallen bodies were moved to someplace else. After Aloy and Erend realize that, scan and follow the other cart tracks nearby. Climb up the hill until you reach the Dimmed Bones ruins. There, you’ll get ambushed by a couple of bandits. Snipe out the bandits and then you’ll be made to take out the machines.

Kill the Ravagers

Continue following Erend until you find out that there are some machines waiting on the hill. Duck and dodge around the turrets, avoiding the fire. Because of the machines at the top of the hill, you can use the Ravager’s Turret against it if need be.

When you finish that, now you can begin your next objective.

Investigate the Ambush Site

After finishing off the battlefield and the machines, Erend will talk to you while you’re investigating. However, you’re in the middle of the battlefield where they may be some good loot lying around. Don’t forget to grab the Medicinal Ochreblossom if you find some lying around. But to complete the objective, examine the following:

• Bits of Leather
• Bloodstains
• Rocks
• Tripod – it’s on a raised up ledge inside a nearby metal structure.

When you’re done, talk to Erend. You’ll soon find out that the body he first saw may not have been the one he had been looking for after all. With that, the Investigation fully under way. Continue chasing the trail of intrigue before finally meeting Erend back at Meridian for the next quest – Into the Borderlands.
