Sawtooth Strategy Guide [Horizon Zero Dawn]

This page contains a full strategy guide on how to defeat Sawtooth, including enemy stats, weapons, attacks and item drops.

The Sawtooth is an agile predator with very sharp fangs used as its main weapon for hunting prey. Though it lacks long-ranged capabilities, its speed and tenacity more than make up for it and is not to be trifled with.

Strategy

When the hunt begins, take advantage of the fact that the Sawtooth has not yet noticed you. Get into position near the bushes a bit further from the big rock near Sawtooth. Before it can turn around, shoot the Tripcaster with Shock Wire to make a tripwire in front of the path that Sawtooth will walk to (you can aim at the big rock and somewhere on the opposite end to set up the wire).

When it walks towards the wire, it will be paralyzed. Quickly change to your your bow and move along the bushes past the big rock so it still doesn’t detect you, then use Fire Arrows on its body until you set it completely ablaze. When it gets up, stop shooting and wait for it to walk close enough to you along the bushes, then stab its Blaze Canister with the spear. This should be the only time that you have alerted it and have exposed yourself. Be quick to dodge if it retaliates with its fangs, though it should not live long since it will be near death when you’ve managed to strike it with the spear earlier.
