Longleg Strategy Guide [Horizon Zero Dawn]

THIS PAGE CONTAINS A FULL STRATEGY GUIDE ON HOW TO DEFEAT the LONGLEG, INCLUDING ENEMY STATS, WEAPONS, ATTACKS AND ITEM DROPS.

This machine of moderate size looks like an ostrich with its frame, reverse-joint legs and beak-like snout. It moves hastily and may emit a weird machine call to send reinforcements when in a dire state. The Longleg’s pace is complemented by its capability to launch sonic blasts when faced against a human. Although it may be tough to take on, it has a wide number of weaknesses due to its composition, and almost all types of ammunition are effective against it.

Strategy

Similar to Watchers, Longlegs function as escorts for other machines. This makes them tough to handle as they usually accompany a herd. Complemented with its Alarm Call weapon it’s a risk to use projectiles, this makes Silent Strike more efficient as an option to employ when trying to take them down. Armed with a Tearblast arrow and firing it off to its Concussion Sac helps whittle it down more efficiently, bear in mind that you should maintain some distance to avoid the impact of the explosion’s radius.

Getting too near to a threatening Longleg requires a fast counter such as a critical hit melee, but it might survive that, thus it requires some follow up with charged shots to the Concussion Sac. Another approach is to aim for the rear with a Shock arrow, this also affects adjacent herds although it seems to be a hit-or-miss. If all else fails, fire a well-placed shot to its wings.
