Side Quest Walkthrough – Death from the Skies

Talk to the wounded man on the road west of Free Heap to initiate this Side Quest Death from the Skies.

Go to Pitchcliff / Kill the Glinthawks

Head for the town of Pitchcliff north of Meridian. You’ll spot a swarm of Glinthawks as you come to the destination which you’ll need to take out.

Find the Leader of Pitchcliff / Investigate Pitchcliff

After killing the Glinthawks, follow the Quest Marker to the leader of Pitchcliff Ralert and talk to him. Then, jump down and proceed to the back of the building and look for Shahavad. As you approach him, examine the strange device near him using Focus. Afterwards, talk to Shahavad.

Go to the Campsite / Go to the Workshop

After talking to Shahavad, follow the Quest Marker to the campsite. You’ll need to climb up the side of the mountain and manage your way on the rocky path to get to the destination. Once you get to the Campsite, follow the Quest Marker to the Workshop some 80m ahead. As you follow the path, you’ll reach a gap. From there, jump down and grab onto the ledge to your right. Manage your way to the left, jumping and grabbing on to the ledges as you go towards the Quest Marker.

As you come to the stable rock platform again (with the supply crate), jump on to the other side of the mountain this time and go left to follow the Quest Marker. Once you’ve come to the ledge where the Quest Marker is directly above you, climb straight up.

Pull yourself up from the ledge and onto the new area. Try to scan the area first. You’ll notice that there are Longlegs prowling about, so be careful. If you have any Shock or Blast Wires on you, this would be a good time to use them. Set them up before any of the Longlegs see you.

After killing the Longlegs, follow the Quest Marker again and you should come up to an overlook. You’ll see a Freeze Bellowback in the distance and a little to the right, some Watchers. You can use the overlook to snipe the enemies, backing up and staying out of view if they notice or aim at you.

Disable the Lures / Kill the Stormbird

After dealing with all the enemies, follow the Quest Marker again towards the Workshop. Within some 90m from the destination, you can make out a Stormbird in the Distance. You can opt to disable the lures first, then focus on Stormbird if you want.

As you approach the first lure, the Stormbird will fly and perch closer. Hide in the tall grass near the rockwhen it does.

Take advantage of the moment that the Stormbird hasn’t noticed you yet and creep into the tall grass near the rock. Tear Arrows will be good against almost all of Stormbird’s components, save for its body which is also resistant to Shock.

Investigate the Workshop

After disabling all the lures, head for the table to left of the workshop and read the notes there. Afterwards, report back to Ralert. You will receive an Extraordinary Reward Box and 6250 XP for completing the Side Quest.

  1. There is another way to killer the storm bird that will pose no threat to you. When you leave Pitchcliff, you should encourage ravager. Use a tearblast arrow to dislodge his gun from his back and then finish him off with a precision arrow. Or you can try your luck and kill it first and then use a tearblast arrow on its carcass to remove the gun, but that doesn’t always work. Take the gun and head up towards the camp. Dispatch any enemies along the way with your arrows. Save your gun ammo for the stormbird. As you go up the trail, it will take a sharp right and you’ll see the stormbird in the distance landing on a mountain top. Walk a short distance and the game will direct you to turn back to the left, heading up to the camp. Instead, continue straight towards the stormbird. It looks like there’s a slight path there. You’ll come to a creek. There’s a certain place where you can drop down into it and then walk up the other bank while holding the gun. Keep walking forward and then kind of up to the left until you can see the wing of the stormbird. Shoot a couple shots at the wing and the stormbird will rise up in the sky where you can unload your gun on it and kill it. From there, I drop the gun and finish climbing up the back way where I end up at the lures. Don’t disable them yet, because the game still wants you to go to the camp first.

The hard part is finding the spot in the creek where you can cross. If you walk forward as I mentioned, and scout around, you’ll find a place where it’s so close that you can almost jump across with a gun but just a bit too far. Drop down into the creek and there’s a spot right there where you can climb up the other side with the gun. The next hard part is finding your way up the mountain to a spot where you’re close enough. It takes a bit of figuring, but you should be able to find it.
FYI…you can see the stormbird wing from just this side of the creek, and you can even shoot at it to get the stormbird to rise. But it will still be too far away to hit. You have to cross over and get closer. It may take you a time or two to figure it out, but it could be helpful
