In the Main Quest The Looming Shadow, Aloy makes her way back to Meridian prepare for an impending battle. There, she has a word with the Sun-King as they ready themselves against a merciless army.
Main Quest Walkthrough – The Looming Shadow
Go to the Palace of the Sun / Talk to Sun-King Avad / Talk to Blameless Marad
Make your way to the Palace by following the Quest Marker to Avad. A cutscene will ensue. Then head to the gate nearby and talk to Marad.
Rest Before the Final Battle / Visit Both Defense Sites (Optional) / Review Preparations at the Ridge (Optional) / Review Preparations at the Spire (Optional)
You can opt to resupply on ammo and some healing items if you need to. Each Optional Objective meanwhile will acquaint you with the various defense systems that Meridian will employ during the battle. The one on the ridge has heavy cannons strategically situated to keep enemies that try to advance at bay. You can try them out if you like to have a feel of the cannons when the real battle takes place. On the spire, all you can do is to talk to Sona, Varl and Erend for more story-related information.
Once you’ve readied yourself, head back to your quarters and rest.
