Medium Outfits

Medium Outfits offer superior bonuses to their Light Outfit counterparts and are obtained fairly around halfway through the game. They are traded for resources that are somewhat hard to obtain as most of them require you to farm certain enemies for their uncommon or rare components. Medium Outfits will prove to be reliable until very late in the game, up until you are pitted against very difficult enemies in groups.
Heavy Outfits

Heavy Outfits provide the best bonuses out of all the outfit categories, but are obtained late in the game. They are usually traded for resources that are extremely hard to obtain because of their low drop rate from certain enemies. They are obviously suited for late-game and have quite a few customization options, owing to some of the outfits in the category having up to three Modification Slots.
