Midgar
| 1 | Watch the cutscene. |

| 5 | Once you are outside again, keep following the path through the wreckage. |

Nibelheim

| 2 | Afterwards, defeat the Disgorgon using Sephiroth. Feel free to get a feel for Sephiroth’s normal attack and various abilities as it is impossible to die in this fight. |

| 4 | After getting control of Cloud, move forward just before the stairs that goes up to the town square. |
| 5 | Turn left before the stairs and follow the alley all the way to where some chickens are. Walk to the dead end to find a chest containing Mega Potion x1. |
| 6 | Head right to find a wooden staircase that also goes up to the town square. |
| 7 | Go all the way to the town square and climb up the water tower. |
| 8 | Watch the cutscene. |
| 9 | Afterwards, climb down the water tower. |
| 10 | Enter Tifa’s house (Lockhart Residence) by interacting with the door of the house to the right after coming down from the water tower. |
| 11 | Choose to go inside. Then, go up to the second floor and enter Tifa’s room to find a chest that contains Ether x1. You can also play the piano here to unlock the piano mini game and obtain Tifa’s Theme (music sheet). |
| 12 | Leave Tifa’s house and go right to the house next door. |
| 13 | Enter Cloud’s house (Strife Residence) by interacting with the door. |
| 14 | Watch the cutscene. |
| 15 | Afterwards, leave Cloud’s house and enter Nidhogg Hotel. |
| 16 | Talk to Zangan. |
| 17 | Go up the stairs. |

Mt. Nibel

| 2 | Follow Tifa along the path. Press and hold R2 or press down on the left analog stick (L3) to sprint. You can destroy the boxes around the area to obtain useful items like Mega Potions and Hi Potions by pressing the □ button during exploration. |
| 3 | Watch the cutscene. |
| 4 | Defeat the Insectoid Chimeras. Press the △ button to switch between Operator Mode and Punisher Mode in battle. The enemies are weak to ice so using Blizzard will build their stagger quickly. |
| 5 | Continue following the path while defeating more enemies along the way. |
| 6 | Defeat the two Velociwings. Afterwards, you will get the Assess materia. Equip it to be able to analyze enemies and display useful info such as weaknesses and resistances. |
| 7 | Continue following the path while defeat more enemies. |
| 8 | After defeating another pair of Velociwings, move forward and open the chest nearby to get Hi Potion x2. |
| 9 | Go forward up the stairs on the slope and follow the path until you reach a dead end (Tifa will call you back). |
| 10 | Turn around to go back to Tifa but slowly hug the right wall. You can pick up a Wind materia up the slope by pressing the ○ button to perform a Terrain Action to reach it. Then, press △ to grab it. |
| 11 | Head back down and pass through the crack in the cliff. |
| 12 | Enter the Mako Measurement Facility. |
Mako Measurement Facility
| 1 | Go up the stairs. |

| 2 | Turn right and pick up the Level Boost materia on the small shelf. |
| 3 | Proceed forward to the elevator. |
| 4 | Use the elevator to go up. |
| 5 | Move forward and defeat the Screamer. It is weak to fire to use fire magic to deal increased stagger damage to it. |
| 6 | Follow the path as it turns right into some stairs. Before going up, jump over the rails nearby using ○ to find a chest containing Ether x1. |
| 7 | Return to the other side of the rails and go up the stairs. |
| 8 | In the next area, grab onto the Mako Purifier using the L2 button and clear out the Mako gas. |
| 9 | Use the elevator to reach the next area. |
Southern Bridge – Summit Approach
| 1 | Follow the path to the southern bridge. |

| 2 | Several boxes on the sides of the path contains Mega Potion (and also a Phoenix Down) so be sure to destroy them. |
| 3 | Once you reach another helipad area where a cutscene zooming in on the summit triggers, move forward. But instead of going all the way to the bridge, turn right to find a small area with chest containing Elixir x1. |
| 4 | Cross the bridge. |
| 5 | Watch the cutscene. |
Northern Ridge Foot (Gripahellir River Basin – Gripahellir Ravine)
| 1 | Watch the cutscene. Afterwards, Sephiroth will join the party. |

| 2 | Move forward and climb up the cliff wall by using the left analog stick to grab on to the yellow handholds. |
| 3 | Pick up the HP UP materia in the next area near the bench. |
| 4 | Use the bench to fully restore the party’s HP and MP. |
| 5 | Continue following the path through the cavern while defeating enemies along the way. Use Sephiroth to easily clear out the enemies. |
| 6 | Get Empowerment Materia once you arrive at Gripahellir Ravine. |
| 7 | Continue following the path up the ravine while defeating enemies along the way. |
Northern Ridge Bluff
| 1 | Use the narrow wooden walkway by the cliff wall to reach the other side. |

| 2 | Before following the path northeast, climb down the cliff wall and pick up the nearby Magnify Materia on the lower area. |
| 3 | Climb back up and continue following the path as it turns northeast. |
| 4 | Defeat the Zu. It is weak to Wind, so use Wind magic to deal increased staggered damage to it. You can also perform synergy attacks with your ally by holding the guard button (R1) and press either the □ or △. Afterwards, go up the stairs and drop down on to the right to find a chest containing Mega Potion. |
| 5 | Continue following the path up the area on the left. Climb up on to the roof of the structure on the left to find the Precision Defense Focus materia. |
| 6 | Continue up the path using the steel ladders to reach the Appraisal Drilling Site. |
Northern Ridge (Appraisal Drilling Site)
| 1 | Go up the stairs on the left and pick up the Auto-Cast materia above the covered machines near the stack of planks. |

| 2 | Head back down and approach the steel ladder on the other side of the area. Go up to find another Mako gas-filled area. |
| 3 | Grab onto the Mako Purifier and clear out the gas along the west side of the room first (go through the broken steel fence to reach it). Afterwards, go back through the broken fence and operate the controls of sealed door to the east. Once it is open, grab onto the Mako Purifier again and go through it. Finally, clean up the last two pockets of Mako gas here. |
| 4 | Before going up via the elevator, walk up to the northwestern corner of the area and climb up the boxes. There is a small area here with a tall stack of crates that is hiding the Comet materia. |
| 5 | Go up via the elevator. |
| 6 | In the next area, move forward and enter the fence doorway in front of you. Then, turn right to find a chest containing Elixir x1. |
| 7 | Exit the fenced area and follow the path again to see a bench just ahead. Before using it, drop down onto the right to find a chest containing Elixir x1. |
| 8 | Climb back up and use the bench to fully restore the party’s HP and MP. |
| 9 | Follow the path up the stairs into another cavern section. |
| 10 | Proceed forward and enter the gate. |
| 11 | Defeat the Materia Guardian (Boss Guide). Be sure to use Fire on its hind legs when it grabs Cloud using Seizing Claws to free your ally. When Materia Hunter is staggered, unload on it with Abilities and Synergy Skills to stack damage before it can recover. When the boss clings to the ceiling during the second phase of the fight, force it down to the ground by attacking any of its legs with Fire again.
During the third phase, have Cloud and Sephiroth use Double Helix (Synergy Ability) to knock down Materia Hunter again from the platform. Then, build up its stagger gauge before finishing it off with Limit Breaks. |
Mako Reactor
| 1 | Go inside the reactor. |

| 2 | Move forward and use the elevator to go up. |
| 3 | Once you are outside the reactor again, enter the gate on the right. |
| 4 | Go down the stairs and follow the path. |
| 5 | Watch the cutscene. |
| 6 | Head outside to find the valve. |
| 7 | Turn off the valve by pressing and holding the L2 and R2 buttons together. |
| 8 | Head back and talk to Sephiroth. |
Nibelheim – Shinra Manor
| 1 | Talk to Mayor Zander on the 1F. |

| 3 | After entering the mansion, head for the elevator on the left side. |
| 4 | Use the elevator to reach the Underground Cavern. |
