Chapter 14 Walkthrough Summary
Interlude
1 | Follow Aerith by exiting the house. |
---|---|
2 | Continue following Aerith. |
3 | Defeat the Whisperers using basic attacks. |
4 | Head through the forest. |
5 | Watch the cutscene. |
Sleeping Forest – ?
1 | Once you are reunited with the party, continue moving through the forest. |
---|---|
2 | Watch the cutscene. Afterwards, head down the path to reach the lower area and take down the Whispers here. |
3 | When you gain control of Cloud by himself, head for the rest stop and prepare your party for the game’s final boss battles. |
4 | When you are ready, move forward towards Aerith and press L2 and R2 during the QTE section. |
5 | Afterwards, prepare to battle Jenova Lifeclinger. |
6 | Jenova Lifeclinger does not have any elemental weaknesses but is resistant to ice and wind.
Because of this, try equipping the party with Fire and Lightning materia to at least be able to deal damage from afar with spells. It is also recommended to have characters equipped with Subversion materia so you can use Breach to remove Barrier from Jenova Lifeclinger when she casts it. When the fight starts, everyone except Cloud will have full Limit Break gauges, though it is recommended to save this for later when the boss is staggered or when you fight her as different pairs. Focus on building up ATB and using stagger-building abilities like Focused Thrust and Focused Shot on the boss. Other party members should reserve ATB for using offensive or healing magic. Once you take out about 25% of Jenova Lifeclinger’s HP, the fight will switch to just Cloud and the boss. Pummel the boss with Focused Thrust and normal attacks, occasionally switching to countering in Operator Mode when the boss winds up Castigate. Once you force Jenova Lifeclinger into stagger, unload on her with a Limit Break and hard-hitting abilities. Continue chipping away at the boss’ HP while building up her stagger gauge again when the rest of the party rejoins you in the fight. After Jenova Lifeclinger destroys the platform you are standing on, you will need to fight her in pairs. Each pair should focus on taking down each of the boss’ wings to cripple it so build ATB again and throw out spells and abilities at these parts. Note that you can also use your Limit Breaks to destroy each part faster. Finally, Cloud will be paired with Yuffie to take down Jenova Lifeclinger’s head. After doing so, the fight will progress to its final phase. Jenova Lifeclinger will be immune to melee attacks after she is pressured so magic is the only way to damage her at this stage. Build up ATB purely for spellcasting and fire away with fire and lightning to bypass her defenses. Finally, close out the fight by using any Limit Breaks that any part member has not thrown out yet. |
7 | After defeating Jenova, watch the cutscenes. Then, prepare to battle the game’s final boss Sephiroth. |
8 | As with Jenova, Sephiroth is not weak to any type of elemental damage but has not significant resistances to any of them as well.
This first phase of the final battle has you controlling Cloud and Zack so focus on accumulating ATB charges to be able to use abilities on Sephiroth. Sephiroth can easily interrupt you as you try to wind up abilities. Because of this, try to use them after you are able to dodge or run away from his Zanshin or Hell’s Gate attack. Be sure to use Soldier’s Honor when it becomes available to grant Zack unlimited MP during the fight. This allows you to cast any of Zack’s support spells to get through this initial phase of the final battle. Once Sephiroth transforms into Sephiroth Reborn, you will need to take him on with only Cloud at first. Focus on attacking Sephiroth Reborn’s weakpoint below his body while building up ATB. Be sure to save at least 1 charge to heal up with items or magic as Sephiroth will use Heartless Angel to instantly reduce your HP to 1. Once Tifa, Red XIII, and Cait Sith join the fight, turn your attention to Bahamut Arisen Whisper to accumulate ATB until Sephiroth’s arm become targetable when he brings them down. Pummel his arm with magic and abilities before focusing on Bahamut again when the boss pulls it back again. Do not hesitate to heal throughout the fight as you want everyone to be alive at all times to stack as much damage to Sephiroth’s arms when they are exposed. Once Bahamut Arisen is defeated, Sephiroth will try to revive him by exposing both of his wings. Attack one of them to destroy them. Then, repeat the process of taking down Bahamut again and destroying the other remaining wing. When the fight switches to Zack, unload on on Sephiroth’s targetable chest with abilities as well as Synergy moves with Cloud. The fight soon progresses to one where you control Red XIII, Barret and Yuffie. In this phase, have Yuffie use Elemental Ninjutsu to target the boss’ wings which will have rotating weaknesses throughout the fight. Use fire magic when the wings gain the ice attribute and wind for lightning. Destroying Sephiroth’s wings will expose his core (weakpoint) so focus all attacks on it to get past this phase. As always, reserve at least 1 ATB charge for using items or magic to heal when Sephiroth casts Heartless Angel again. For the final phase of the fight, Sephiroth transforms back to his human form with your party consisting of Cloud and Aerith. The key to winning this final phase is to have Aerith attack Sephiroth’s wing and sword which will pressure him. Do not forget to save an ATB charge on either character to heal up as Sephiroth will constantly spam Heartless Angel during this phase. One of the best chances to unload on Sephiroth during this stage is when he uses Whisper Cannon which fires a beam of dark energy in a straight line. Circle around him and pummel him with attacks before he can recover. When Sephiroth winds up with The End is Nigh, he will begin to use Tempus Finis so be ready to dodge the beams that he fires while spinning while continuing to build up his stagger gauge. Aim for a final push to victory when he is staggered by throwing out a Limit Break if you have not used it yet. Failing to stagger Sephiroth at this point will allow him to use Octaslash Prime which may wipe out your party if both Cloud and Aerith’s HPs are low. |
9 | After defeating Sephiroth, watch the ending. |
