Requires ATB and a filled summon gauge to use.
Summoning requires ATB as well as a fully-charged summon gauge. During certain battles (especially against bosses), a summon gauge may appear on the screen which indicates the time before a Summon can be invoked.
Materia Level
Summon materia are different from other materia types in that the former can only be leveled up by visiting a special locations called Sanctuaries dedicated to a specific Summon.
Summon crystals found in Sanctuaries can be analyzed, allowing summon materia and the Summon itself to become more powerful when used in battle.
