How to Unlock Sky Chocobo (Aponi)

Progress through the game’s main story and unlock Chapter 10.

The Sky Chocobos inhabit the Cosmo Canyon Region, which can be unlocked in Chapter 10. Once you have reached Chapter 10, head to Kamaria’s Ranch and accept the Odd Job: Bonds of Trust.

Complete the Odd Job: Bonds of Trust.

During this side quest, you will be able to wrangle and capture the Sky Chocobo and gain access to its abilities while exploring the Cosmo Canyon Region.

Head to Chocobo Intel’s location.

Completing the Odd Job: Bonds of Trust will also unlock Chocobo Intel: Cosmo Canyon’s Soaring Birds. These Chocobo Intel are part of the World Intel that players must clear or unlock in order to achieve 100% completion in the game.

How to Capture Sky Chocobo (Aponi)

Can be wrangled in a Hide and Seek mini game.

After accepting the Odd Job: Stuck in a Rut, head to the first objective of the side quest. Doing so will start the Hide and Seek mini game, where you can wrangle and catch the Sky Chocobo.

Wait for the chocobo to turn around in the opposite direction of your current position.

Being patient is one of the keys to catching the Sky Chocobo. This is because the Yellow Chocobos in the area will eventually turn around, and you have to wait for them to face the other direction before you start moving.

Use the mine carts to block the chocobo’s view.

Once you are safe from the chocobos’ view, push the first mine cart and use it as cover to reach the switch on the right. There is a Yellow Chocobo near the tracks, so slowly push the mine cart forward whenever it is looking in another direction, then get in front of the mine cart and pull it until you reach the switch.

Flip the switch to change tracks.

Keep in mind that you need to bring the mine cart at the end of the first track in order to use it on the track heading to the east side. From this point forward, you will have to keep pushing the mine cart and stop whenever a chocobo might spot you, hence the patience.

Pick up the stones and use it to distract the chocobo nearby.

Once you reach the stones on the left side of the track, pick them up and throw one behind the chocobo nearby. Doing so will allow you to flip the second switch and change the tracks once again.

Throw a stone behind the chocobo on the right side of the tracks.

Pick up every stone you can get along the way, and once you see the last yellow chocobo, throw a stone behind it. Then, push the mine cart forward until you reach Aponi.

Sneak behind the Sky Chocobo and press the Triangle button to catch it.

At this point, you can still hide behind the mine cart, but the Sky Chocobo is facing towards your position. All you have to do is move into the bush near the tracks and throw another stone behind the Sky Chocobo, then approach it quickly, as it can only be distracted for a short period of time.

Uses Chocobo Ramps to jump and glide in the air.

The sky Chocobos can soar into the skies by taking off from high places (chocobo ramps). They allow you to traverse the skies and easily reach valleys or summits. By using their abilities, you can reach quest objectives that are inaccessible on foot or reveal treasures in hidden areas.
