Playable Characters List and Guide for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth (FF7 Rebirth)
Below is a list of all playable characters in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth (FF7 Rebirth), including all main playable characters, temporary party members, and non-playable party members in the game.
Main Playable Characters
Character | Profile and Gameplay |
---|---|
Cloud Strife | An ex-SOLDIER First Class who became a mercenary for eco-terrorist group Avalanche. Cloud pursues the Legendary SOLDIER Sephiroth who invokes painful memories of his past and soon becomes embroiled in a mission to save the planet.
Cloud wields massive swords in battle and is able to switch between Operator and Punisher modes to adapt to almost any situation. |
Availability | The Fall of a Hero in Nibelheim (Chapter Prelude, Demo) onwards. |
Aerith Gainsborough | A flower girl from the slums who Cloud meets and befriends during his mission for Avalanche. Aerith is the last remaining Cetra, an ancient race of people who can “talk” to the planet. Because of her origins, she is under constant surveillance by Shinra who intend to capture her at all costs for their own nefarious ends.
Aerith is skilled with using staves in battle and can cast a variety of spells to attack foes from a distance or support her allies with powerful defensive magic. |
Availability | To be confirmed. |
Barret Wallace | The leader of the Avalanche cell based in Midgar. Barret, though Tifa, enlists the services of Cloud to aid the group during missions, though he is initially mistrustful of the ex-SOLDIER’s lack of empathy for Avalanche’s cause. Barret and Cloud eventually agree to work together to pursue Sephiroth for the sake of the planet.
Barret fights using arsenal of gun arms that he fire at grounded or airborne enemies at long range. He also boasts considerable durability which allows him to tank hits for the party. |
Availability | To be confirmed. |
Tifa Lockhart | A member of Avalanche’s Midgar cell and Cloud’s childhood friend. Despite wanting to save the planet, Tifa often has doubts on Avalanche’s methods that occasionally resort in destruction and harm on Midgar’s citizens. After realizing the grave threat that Sephiroth poses to the planet, Tifa resolves to fight for its survival by joining Cloud and his party.
Tifa uses various gloves to accommodate her fast and powerful martial arts techniques that allow her to string together into intricate combos both on the ground and in the air. |
Availability | To be confirmed. |
Red XIII | A native of Cosmo Canyon who was taken captive by Shinra and used for experiments. Red XIII agrees to travel with Cloud and his allies after he is freed from his cell in Shinra Headquarters. Red XIII’s outward appearance as a beast belies years of valuable wisdom that guides the party on their journey outside Midgar.
Red XIII can be equipped with collars while utilizing his unique Vengeance mechanic. By guarding at the right moment when an enemy attacks, Red XIII can fill his Vengeance gauge to unleash an unrelenting beastly assault on foes in battle with improved attack power and mobility. |
Availability | To be confirmed. |
Yuffie Kisaragi | A spunky girl and self-described “materia hunter” from Wutai. Yuffie is a member of Wutai’s elite ninja corps who infiltrates Shinra Headquarters to steal the “ultimate materia.” After her plan fails and loses her partner Sonon in a tragic encounter, she meets Cloud and decides to join his party.
Yuffie wields throwing stars in battle and excels in both close- and long-range combat using tricky maneuvers and aerial attacks. Her access to different elemental Ninjutsu also lets her exploit her foes’ weaknesses outside of using materia. |
Availability | To be confirmed. |
Cait Sith | A popular robotic mascot in Gold Saucer who appears as a black cat sitting atop a stout moogle. Cait Sith is introduced to Cloud’s party as the heroic band travel to the bustling entertainment destination. Armed with useful intel on Shinra and a knack for fortune telling, Cait Sith agrees to fight alongside Cloud as one of his allies.
Caith Sith uses Megaphones in battle and can call his loyal moogle companion to team up against foes. Doing so drastically changes Cait Sith’s moveset and allows him to fill the Moogle Meter to cast useful buffs on allies. |
Availability | To be confirmed. |
Temporary Playable Characters
Character | Profile and Gameplay |
---|---|
Sephiroth | A legendary member of SOLDIER and war hero renowned for his unmatched prowess in battle. Sephiroth would discover the horrific experiments that led to his creation, eventually harboring a grudge on Shinra and resolving to exact his twisted will on the planet.
Sephiroth wields his signature weapon, the Masamune, to execute fast and powerful attacks that can link into even more damaging moves via his Aura Charge mechanic. Sephiroth can also use Retaliation Stance to parry and counter incoming enemy attacks, making him extremely adept at offense and defense. |
Availability | The Fall of a Hero in Nibelheim only (Chapter Prelude, Demo) |
Non-Playable Main Characters
Character | Profile |
---|---|
Cid Highwind | An airship pilot engineer who previously worked for Shinra. Cid lives in Rocket Town and initially comes off as a rough and cynical man to Cloud and party but eventually places his trust on them. As one of Cloud’s allies, Cid agrees to fly them around the world aboard his plane called the Tiny Bronco. |
Availability | Story character only (cannot be recruited to the party). |
Vincent Valentine |
A mysterious man sleeping inside a coffin under Shinra Manor. Possessing the genes of various monsters, Vincent speaks of a mysterious past with Sephiroth and the Shinra company as a whole. He eventually decides to travel with Cloud and his party to save the planet. |
Availability | Story character only (cannot be recruited to the party). |
