What are Summons in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth (FF7 Rebirth)?
Powerful creatures that you can call forth on the battlefield.
Summons are powerful creatures in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth (FF7 Rebirth) that can be invoked to fight alongside you in battle using summon materia. After calling forth a Summon, they will automatically attack enemies or use unique abilities to aid the party.
It is also possible to manually command summons to use specific moves and skills. This is useful for employing certain strategies that require you to time the use of certain abilities, especially if you want to quickly stagger an enemy or maximize damage when they are in the said vulnerable state.
Summons are active only for a fixed duration, indicated by a constantly depleting gauge on right side of the screen under the summon’s name. Before a summon disappears, it will use its Ultimate Attack to deal massive damage to enemies or activate useful effects such as HP recovery or buffs for the party.
How to Get Summon Materia in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth (FF7 Rebirth)
Obtained as part of the game’s story chapters.
Summon materia required to invoke summons can be acquired by simply progressing through the game’s main story chapters. These summon materia are essentially missable as there is no way to to avoid getting them in the game.
Rewarded for clearing challenges.
Some summon materia can only be obtained by completing optional challenges in the game which often require you to defeat the summons themselves in battle.
The strength and durability of most summons fought are similar to those of bosses faced during the main story so ample preparation is required before taking them on during challenges.
Obtained automatically as bonuses.
Finally, a few of the game’s summon materia are given to the player as bonuses for pre-ordering specific versions of the game or having save files of previous Final Fantasy 7 Remake games in your Playstation 5 (PS5) console.
