How to Get Crucio Guide for Hogwarts Legacy
What is Crucio?
The Cruciatus Curse or Crucio is an Unforgivable Curse (Dark Arts spell) in Hogwarts Legacy that applies a damage-over-time (DoE) effect on a target while inflicting them with the Curse status. Despite being the most basic Dark magic spell in the game, it is extremely useful for depleting the health of enemies that have high HP.

Unlocked during In the Shadow of the Study (Sebastian Side Quest)
Crucio can only be unlocked during Sebastian Sallow’s side quest In the Shadow of the Study. This is the second Relationship Line quest after you have befriended Sebastian which means you can gain access to the spell quite early during the main story. You must also be at Level 16 and have cleared the main quest Welcome to Hogsmeade.

Once you begin In the Shadow of the Study, progress through the mission until you come into a dialogue choice to learn the Unforgivable Curse. When Sebastian says “I think I can cast it if I have to”, answer with “I want to learn the Cruciatus Curse. But you must cast it on me” (second choice). Note that picking a different response will make you miss out on the learning Crucio for the duration of the playthrough so be careful.

Improving Crucio through the Dark Arts Talents

Getting any of the Dark Arts Talent perks which activate additional effects on cursed enemies will let you get more out of using Crucio. Be sure to get Crucio Mastery which allows you to apply Curse status to nearby enemies after hitting another with the spell.
