What are Dark Arts Spells?
Dark Arts Spells or Unforgivable Curses are a category of forbidden dark magic in Hogwarts Legacy. Most Dark Arts spells inflict the Curse status on targets that causes them to take extra damage from subsequent attacks while Avada Kedavra, the strongest Unforgivable Curse, can kill targets instantly in one hit.
Three (3) Learnable Unforgivable Curses in the Game
There are a total of 3 Dark Arts spells you can obtain throughout the main story which are Crucio, Imperio, and Avada Kedavra. Confringo, referred to as the Blasting Curse in the Dark Arts Battle Arena, is categorized under Damage Spells in the game.

Befriend Sebastian Sallow and progress through his Relationship quest lines.
The Unforgivable Curses can only be learned after befriending Sebastian Sallow, a student from Slytherin House. Afterwards, you must complete side quests specific to his Relationship Line and answer with the correct dialogue choices to obtain Crucio, Imperio, and Avada Kedavra.

Permanently missable if you refuse Sebastian’s offer to teach them to you.
Note that all Unforgivable Curses (except Confringo) are permanently missable if you respond with the wrong dialogue choice during their respective questlines. There is no other way to learn these spells once you miss them so you will need to reload an earlier save and go through the dialogue choice again.

You do not need to learn any of the Unforgivable Curses to get the Spell Master (silver trophy) achievement during your playthrough. This means that you can still obtain the trophy if you intend to completely avoid delving into the Dark Arts for role-playing purposes.

Consequences of Learning and Using Dark Arts Spells (to be confirmed)
It is speculated that learning and using Dark Arts Spells may cause your character to align themselves in opposition to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Constant use of Dark Arts and growing your relationship with Sebastian may also put you on the path to becoming a Dark Wizard, affecting the game’s ending in the process. More information on this will be added when they are confirmed in the game.
Dark Arts Spells Break Through Shield Charms
Dark Arts Spells will still hit target that use Shield Charms. This means that you should resort to dodging if you encounter an enemy wizard that is able to cast dark magic and curses throughout the game.
Dark Arts Battle Arena
Included as exclusive content in the Hogwarts Legacy Deluxe Edition is the Dark Arts Battle Arena where you can battle waves of enemies with all Unforgivable Curses (including Confringo) automatically unlocked. The Dark Arts Battle Arena is found in the Forbidden Forest in North Hogwarts Region.
