Tips and Tricks: How To Level Up Easily in Horizon Zero Dawn

This article contains tips and tricks how to level up in Horizon Zero Dawn.

Unlock your new weapons

When you have better weapons, you have better chances of surviving. If you’re trying to level up, having an overpowered weapon can make life easier. Not just that, you have corrupted creatures running around. With that, you’re going to need a good bow that can sling on fire arrows. The higher the rarity of the weapon, the more kinds of ammo you can sling on. For Ropecasters, the better the rarity – the bigger the enemy it can bring down.

Use the Job System

You can create jobs. Instead of going to the merchants, you can create jobs. Not only does it give your wandering around the open world a purpose but, it also gives you notifications. It can also increase your chances in drop rate to pick up certain items so that you don’t have to worry about grinding your way through everything.

Don’t get caught. Use evasion and stealth.

You’re using a bow. A ranged weapon at that and you’re going to run in Leroy Jenkins with it? That’s crazy. You’re probably going to turn into a pancake when you’re done.

Certain enemies such as the Thunderjaw can detect you even without Aloy being in its line of sight. However, you can easily dodge out before its alerts turn red. That way, you can still hide behind a rock and skewer its head on an arrow. Either that, or blast the Blaze Canister to have it explode. When you do that, you’ll have an easy time surviving.

Or, you can also lure them one by one. Don’t mob them up. You don’t have AoE’s (Area of Effect attacks) unless you’ve got a big sword to chop them up to pieces.

Wear the right armor and use Resistance Potions

Unless you’re trying to play Horizon Zero Dawn ala Dark Souls Style (naked with only a broken thief sword at level 1) then, please be sensible. If you wear the right armor and have the right gear, going for a level up won’t be so hard. You’ll have resistances which can grant you elemental damage. This is useful especially when fighting corrupted creatures.

Complete the Hunting Grounds quests to master advanced tactics

Unlike most open world games, Horizon Zero Dawn doesn’t only test your twitch reflex but also your brains. The Hunting Grounds contain puzzles in which each have a trick. Unless you’re gonna use a walkthrough then, this part should be a bit of a conundrum.

But when you complete these errands/quests/requests then, you’re going to get some good EXP and a level up shouldn’t be far off.
