Main Quest Walkthrough – The Face of Extinction (Part 2)

Objective 3: Go to the Spire and stop HADES!

Aloy arrives at the spire, where HADES has already started transmitting and activates several Deathbringers. When you have control of Aloy, continue on following the waypoint. You will come across breaks in the path going up. These require you to jump and grab onto posts or pillars to get across.

You will catch up with Erend, Varl and Sona midway to the waypoint. Stock up from the crates in the area, then start climbing up the wall near you. The waypoint leads to an open area with some columns. Jump down to trigger a cutscene. HADES has detected Aloy’s presence in the area, and activates a Deathbringer in response.

Kill the Deathbringer: The battle with the Deathbringer takes place in an open area with ruins forming a ring around a wide center. Meanwhile, the Machine itself is huge and packs a ton of firepower, but is relatively slow and stays in the middle of the arena.

The most efficient way to defeat this Machine is to keep out of the central area while shooting arrows, staying outside the ring of ruins and using them as cover when the Deathbringer starts shooting back. Dodge away when the ruins crumble from the Machine’s offense, but don’t get too near it. Pick posts and columns over walls when choosing hiding spots, as they are more resistant to shot damage.

Equip a precise bow like the Sharpshot and target the weapons systems first to weaken and disable them. When the Deathbringer overheats or staggers, aim for the exposed glowing parts for more damage. You only get a brief window to do this, so make your offense count every time.

Several other Machines will attack from time to time. Varl, Sona and Erend will join the battle to take out the new arrivals, but it’s still up to you to take them out. You can loot the dead Machines for materials, but it’s no easy task thanks to the Deathbringer’s heavy offense. Keep watch for a Corrupted Fire Bellowback and try to make its tank explode, damaging the Deathbringer even more.

The end is near for the Deathbringer when you see the top part being exposed. Try to target it and finally bring the Machine down.

Objective 4: Destroy HADES with the Master Override

Compared to the hell you went through, defeating the true final enemy in Horizon Zero Dawn is very easy. Aloy stabs HADES with Sylens’ Master Override-powered lance, which then triggers a burst of energy from the machine. Her actions will purge the HADES Extinction Protocol from the system and disables all the Machines.
