How to Store and Switch Weapons Guide for Starfield

Storing Your Equipped Weapon

You can store (put away) your equipped weapon in Starfield in one of two ways.

This is also the method for readjusting your weapon.

Companions will also put away their weapons when you do.

Once you store your weapon away, your companion (if you have any) will do the same.

Switching Weapons

Assign hotkeys to your weapons.

You can register any weapon as your favorite and assign hotkeys for them in the game. Doing so lets you switch out weapons quickly, especially during intense battles.

To favorite a weapon, highlight it and press  Y (controller) or B (keyboard).

Note that you can also opt to manually equip weapons from your inventory by opening the menu.
