How the Weather Changes

Sleeping and passing time by a bonfire

If you want to change the weather immediately, you can sleep at home, at an inn, or pass the time by a bonfire.

Weather changes every 3 minutes

Weather changes after 3 hours in-game and 3 minutes in real life. If there are no beds nearby or a campfire, simply stay for a few minutes and the weather will change.

How to Predict the Weather

Displayed at the bottom right of the screen

You can check the weather for the following time periods at the bottom right of the screen. Remember to check the weather regularly to easily predict the upcoming weather changes.

Weather Effect
Sunny None
Cloudy None
Rainy
  • Monsters and animals are hard to notice.
  • Makes climbing cliffs hard due to the slippery surface.
  • Flame and bomb arrows are rendered ineffective and become ordinary arrows.
Thunder
  • Same effects with Rainy weather
  • Thunder strikes may hit you if you are wearing metal armor.
Snowy
  • Poor visibility

Weather affects spawn conditions of creatures

The weather also affects the spawn conditions of creatures in the game. Some fish only spawn in certain weather conditions, and some insects spawn more often in certain weather conditions.

It doesn’t rain in some areas of the game

The weather changes depending on where you are in the game. Some weather conditions are not present in some areas of the game. Rainy weather, for example, does not apply to the Gerudo Desert because it is a desert.
