Preparations for Getting the Hylian Shield

Clear main quests first before attempting to acquire the Hylian Shield. It is essential to gain access to the Paraglider as well as have a bow and arrow in your arsenal.

Also, bring these materials:

• Up to 10 bomb flowers
• Up to 10 arrows
• Sundelion or Gloom resist equipment

Head to Hyrule Castle and enter the inner docks

You have two options to get inside the castle. Either create a raft to enter the cave, or search for a place to glide down to the Hyrule Castle’s inner docks. The coordinates of the shield are (-0161, 1159, 0037).

First Method: By Raft

Get to the western island near Hyrule Castle by going to the Castle Town Prison. Find a dock on the western island’s north side, then construct a raft out of Zonai Devices like fans and steering sticks.

Once the raft is constructed, maneuver it along the north side until you find a small cave entrance that leads into the inner docks of the castle.

Turn left to reach the stairs inside the cave. To find the Hylian Shield, get to the tallest platform above the docks.

Second Method: By Flying

Scale the castle’s side rocks by climbing around them. Reach the northeastern side to reach the castle’s underground passageway.

Drop down from the ruins and search the chasm wall for a hole leading to a secret passage. Then, run west of the ramparts along the eastern side of the chasm wall until you come to an area with a cobblestone path. Just below the area is a tiny cave opening that leads to the docks.

Take down enemies

Head up the stairs to find five Gloom Hands. Ready your bomb flower arrows and shoot it into the center of the five hands.

Then, a Phantom Ganon will appear with a spear. Stick close to the enemy while strafing around and blocking his attack. After that, continue going up the stairs.

Lit up the braziers

Use whatever fire-starting technique you can think of to set the central brazier ablaze and complete the puzzle. If you have any extra arrows, you can set one on fire by nocking one and holding it over a burning brazier. Then, burn it into the middle brazier to set it ablaze and reveal the Hylian Shield chest inside.
