Chapter 10: Ancient Cistern Walkthrough
Ancient Cistern Part 1
1 | After entering the Ancient Cistern, jump across the lilypads. |
---|---|
2 | Examine the stone tablet on your right next to the locked door. The stone tablet hints at a secret code (top, bottom, left, and right) that will help you later on through the dungeon. |
3 | Check the back of the large statue above the water to find a mysterious symbol there. You can find another symbol in the water by swimming below it. |
4 | Take out the Blue ChuChu using dash attacks and swim to the front of the large structure. Get Silver Rupees above the hands of the structure by doing dash attacks while they are open. |
5 | You can also spot mysterious symbols on the back of the statue’s left and right hands. The only important thing to remember is the code (top, bottom, left, and right). |
6 | Afterwards, go east and pull the lever to open the door. |
7 | Go north while slashing through the webs and enemies that appear. |
8 | When you come to the stone table near the locked door, read it. Afterwards, hit the lock based on the code’s order (top, bottom, left, and right). |
9 | After opening the door, go inside. Use the beetle and slash through the Skultullas’ strings. |
10 | Afterwards, go southeast and take out the Walltulla on the vines and climb up. |
11 | From the ledge, drop down onto the lily pad below to flip it. Then, swim toward the small passage while destroying the wooden barriers. |
12 | Climb the vines going up and enter the door. Get the Small Key x1 from the treasure chest and jump off the ledge. |
13 | Go up to the upper ledge using the geyser. Take out the Deku Baba along the way. Afterwards, jump off the ledge again and exit through the door leading to the previous main area. |
14 | From the main area, go south and use the Bird Statue to save. Afterwards, go north to the locked door. |
15 | After going inside the room, drop down the pit and prepare to battle the Stalmaster. |
Stalmaster (Mini Boss)
1 | Stalmaster fights very similarly to Stalfos but will change its guard stance faster during the fight. This means that you will need to identify the points to attack it faster to damage it. If you have bombs stocked up, you can lure Stalmaster’s to it, causing its arms to come off. You can then follow-up with sword strikes before it reattaches them.
After significantly lowering Stalmaster’s health, it will stretch out another pair of arms and will be able to guard more areas around its body. It will also begin to change it guard position even faster than before. Strike at it at its exposed areas. When it guards with all four arms (forming a square), do a thrust attack on its exposed center. |
---|---|
2 | After defeating the Stalmaster, enter the unlocked door to get Whip x1 from the treasure chest. |
Ancient Cistern Part 2
1 | Head back to the boss area and use the whip to turn the wind-up key. |
---|---|
2 | Go up to the upper level using the geyser and go out the door to return to the main area. |

4 | Open the treasure chest to get Dungeon Map x1. |
5 | Take out the Furnix by pulling it with toward you the whip when its tail points downward and follow-up with sword attacks. |
6 | Drop down to the water and swim west. Walk on the lily pads and flip the one that is turned upside down using your whip. |
7 | Jump on the lily pad and aim your whip at the nearby lever to make the water stop. |
8 | Drop down into the water again and swim into the small passage through the hole. |
9 | Follow the underwater path until you surface on land again. Afterwards, go east to find Red Rupee x1 inside a treasure chest. |
10 | Take out the Skulltula in the way and approach the gate. To open it, aim your at the lever and pull it. |
11 | Go through the gate and take out the enemies along the way. Afterwards, face the ledge on your right and go up. |
12 | Swing over to the vines ahead by using the whip to latch on to the bar above. |
13 | Go up the vines and deal with the enemies ahead. Afterwards, face the rotating structure on your left and jump toward the vines. Make your way up while using the platform to rest. |
14 | Continue up along the vines onto the next platform. Take out the Bokoblin and latch onto the bar using the whip. |
15 | While latched on, turn left and swing to gain some momentum. You want to aim for the lever to open the gate above so time your jump and latch on to it. |
16 | Take out the Walltula on the vines using your slingshot. Afterwards, go up the vines and swing your way across to the vines. |

22 | Move east along the water and dash up to get on the platform. Take out your whip again and flip the lilypad. |
23 | Shoot the Walltula and climb up using the vines. Go up the ramp until you reach a gap. |
24 | Drop down to the lilypad below to flip it. Afterwards, swim under the lilypad through the revealed path. |
25 | In the next area, go up the steps that will lead you to another wind-up key. Turn it using the whip and a geyser will spout in the room. |
26 | Dive down the water and make your way up the ramp again. Flip the lilypad using your whip and jump across. |
27 | Pull the lever ahead along the path using your whip to open the gate. |
28 | You can go down using the vines to the door’s left and down to platform below. |
29 | Open the treasure chest for some Rupees. Then, shoot down the Walltula on the vines using your slingshot. |
30 | Go up the vines to reach the west platform to find a wind-up key. Turn it using the whip and a geyser will spout in the room. |
31 | Face the wall to the west and aim your whip toward the bar. Pull it down to lower the floor by one level. |
32 | Dive into the water and through the door on the structure to reach the next area. |
33 | In the next area, head down to the lower floor and enter the door to reach the underground level. |
34 | Take out the Cursed Bokoblins while moving northeast. To the left of the path are some lilypads you can jump onto. |
35 | Flip the third lilypad using your whip. Afterwards, look up to the figure that has two eyes. |
36 | Fly the beetle into one of the eyes and maneuver it to the crystal behind it. |
37 | Afterwards, backtrack along the lilypads and move left. Take out the Fire Keese. Then, pick up the bomb flower using the Beetle and destroy the boulder on the far right to free up the platform. |
38 | Cross the lilypads again and swing across using your whip to the platform. |
39 | Climb up the vines on the rotating structure to reach the top. Jump across to the next structure ahead. Ride on it until you reach the second platform with vines that leads to a lever. |
40 | Pull the lever to the other side using the whip. This will make the platforms below to spin in a different direction. |
41 | Jump down from the ledge to the spinning platform below. When you reach the other side, go up the ramp and jump onto the vines. |
42 | Continue moving along and onto the platform on the other side. Go up the vines again and pull the lever from before back to its original direction. |
43 | Jump back to the vines on the rotating structure and ride to the unvisited platform. |
44 | Take out the enemies there and drop down to the lower area below. Afterwards, go up the rope as Cursed Bokoblins start to pursue you. |
45 | Keep going up to the top of the rope. Then, pull the lever on the left to activate the ramp. |
46 | Get on the ramp and pull the lever using your whip. Afterwards, go back down along the rope. |

49 | In the next room, move forward toward the geysers and ride them to the locked gate. |
50 | Use the Blessed Idol to open it and go up the steps. Turn the four wind-up keys here using your whip to elevate the structure. |
51 | Save at the Bird Statue and go up the steps. Afterwards, prepare to battle Koloktos |
Koloktos (Boss)
1 | The general strategy for the first phase of the fight is to use the whip to remove Koloktos’ four arms. This will expose its weakpoint that you can hack away with your sword. In the second phase, Koloktos will arm itself with six swords. Remove one of its arms holding a sword and use it to attack his weakpoint. In the last phase, Koloktos will summon Cursed Bokoblins that you should deal with first. Employ the same strategy when Koloktos is alone again and it should go down eventually. |
---|---|
2 | After defeating Koloktos, pick up the Heart Container. Exit through the door and perform a skyward strike on the emblem. |
