Equip an armor with Cold Resistance effect
Cold can be mitigated if you are wearing armor with a Cold Resistance effect. Some armors have effects embedded in them that can be useful to counter negative effects. Armor shops in villages sell different armors, so make sure to check them out.
Cold can be treated using medicine or food
Cold can be treated by consuming medicine or food that grants a Cold Resistance effect. However, it only lasts for a limited time. Below is a list of consumable items that can treat and resist cold.

Continuous damage from Cold.
If you do not build up any Cold Resistance, you will take continuous damage when exploring freezing climates. The steady damage that you take increases the lower the temperature.
Increased damage taken when entering certain bodies of water.
You will take continuous damage even faster when you enter certain bodies of water in freezing climates.
