No online multiplayer feature.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a single-player game. There are no online or multiplayer features.
The previous game The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild also did not have any multiplayer elements (including DLCs) so there is a high possibility that the sequel will also be an entirely single-player game.
When Do You Need to Go Online?
When Downloading Updates
After the game is released, if there is an update or patch, it is necessary to connect online to download it.
Unlike most online games, you can play the game even if you have not updated to the latest version. There are, however, bug fixes contained in the update so if you want to play the game smoothly, it is recommend that you download the latest version of the game .
When Purchasing the Digital Version of the Game
Tears of the Kingdom is available in both physical and download-only versions. An online connection is required to buy and install the latter.
When Downloading DLCs (Additional Content)
There is currently no information regarding any upcoming DLCs for Tears of the Kingdom (but Breath of the Wild has DLCs). An internet connection is also required to purchase and download any DLCs released in the future.
