Upcoming Playstation 4 Games Revealed
Sony PlayStation’s State of Play event went live today at 3:00 PM PST to showcase upcoming games rolling out on the Playstation 4. Below are all of the upcoming games and content featured during the 13-minute broadcast stream.
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne
The much-awaited expansion pack to Monster Hunter World takes players into the mysterious Hoarfrost Reach, a land veiled in thick snow. Three new monsters have been revealed in the upcoming DLC, including a returning one from past titles.
The first wyvern featured in the trailer is Banbaro, a creature resembling a gigantic elk with massive antlers used to ram and crush its prey. The second wyvern, Beotodus, is a shark-like monster that can rapidly dive and surface from the snow.
The trailer also revealed the great winged frost dragon Velkhana and is likely the expansion’s flagship elder dragon.
The stealthy wyvern Nargacuga will also be appearing in Iceborne, though the monster has only been shown to inhabit the Ancient Forest.
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is set for release on September 6, 2019.
Riverbond is a multiplayer dungeon crawler featuring 3D pixel-style graphics largely made popular by Minecraft. Players must shoot and slash their way against countless enemies on an adventure laid out on an isometric game world.
Riverbond allows up to four players to engage in co-op mode. Maps in the game have various destructible objects such as trees, bridges, pillars, and different types of blocks.
Eight crossover character skins have also been confirmed for the game. Players can change their avatar to resemble various characters from other well-known game titles. Among those included are Shovel Knight from Shovel Knight, Robot 05 from Planet of the Eyes, and Juan Aguacate from Guacamele.
Riverbond will be out this Summer 2019.
Predator: Hunting Grounds
Predator: Hunting Grounds is an online asymmetrical multiplayer shooting game where players work together in a fireteam to hunt down an alien threat equipped with advanced weaponry and stealth capabilities.
The trailer has not shown any gameplay footage, though it is clear that most of the game’s environment will be set in a dense jungle based on the game’s source material.
Predator: Hunting Grounds will be released in 2020. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to use the game’s multiplayer feature.
MediEvil, the classic hit on the PlayStation, is coming to the PlayStation 4 with modern graphics and improved gameplay. Players once again play as the courageous knight Sir Daniel Fortesque as he sets out from his tomb to destroy the evil wizard Zarok.
The trailer showcased a visually-enhanced land of Gallowmere but retains its trademark hack-and-slash action familiar to fans of the series. Reimagined footage of the game’s storyline have also been shown, most notably Daniel’s death and reanimation.
MediEvil is coming out on October 25, 2019.
Away: The Survival Series
Away: The Survival Series is an original adventure game that follows the story of a flying possum and its journey through the dangerous wild. Set in the forests of an unknown island, players will experience a dynamic world bound by the laws of natural selection to discover the meaning of survival.
As the flying possum, players can glide from treetop to treetop, hitch a ride on bigger creatures, and battle a variety of predators to find their way into sanctuary.
No date of release for Away: The Survival Series has been confirmed in the State of Play event.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake
More development footage for the Final Fantasy 7 remake was shown towards the end of the State of Play event. Much of the cutscenes and gameplay focused on the opening sequences of the original game. Among these include the AVALANCHE team’s bombing mission, and Cloud and Barret fighting off Shinra forces.
The combat shown in the trailer is of particular interest, as it demonstrated impressive visuals for what might be Cloud and Barret’s respective limit break attacks.
A scene where Cloud meets Aerith in Midgar was also included in the trailer. Its closing seconds featured Cloud’s meeting with Sephiroth in a location bathed in flames.
More updates for the Final Fantasy 7 remake will be released in June of this year.
