Aerilate
Aerilate is an ability introduced in Gen. VI. The ability changed any Normal-Type moves into Flying-type moves and gave those moves a 30% boost. In the XYORAS generation, Salamence and Pinsir both had Aerilate which gave them an advantage. Both Pokémon were half Flying-type which boosted some of the moves especially if they were STAB moves.
Updated Effect of Aerilate
Before Generation VII came out, people found the ability too powerful. Thus, Pokémon Sun and Moon introduced the nerfed version of this ability. Instead of the usual 30% boost in Flying-Type moves, they reduced it to 20%. According to many competitive players, some have said that this boost wouldn’t affect Salamence too much in Rated Battles. The former being a top-tier Pokémon, some players however fear that the nerf may compromise his power. But others said that this skill nerf balanced out his boosted speed. Others said that the nerfed effect of the ability hurt Sylveon and Pinsir the most.
