Set for release on November 18, 2016, Pokémon Sun and Moon introduce on their respective box arts two new legendary Pokémon! But each version will only allow players to catch one or the other. So who will you choose? Pay attention as each Pokémon’s characteristics, moves and abilities are revealed!

Category: Sunne Pokémon

Type: Psychic/Steel
Ability: Full Metal Body
Solgaleo Type Weaknesses & Resistances

×2 | Fire/Ground/Ghost/Dark |
×1 | Water/Electric/Fighting/Bug |
×1/2 | Normal/Grass/Ice/Flying/Rock/Dragon/Steel/Fairy |
×1/4 | Psychic |
×0 | Poison |
Who would’ve guessed that Solgaleo is actually a Psychic/Steel type Pokémon? Revered in ancient times as the messenger of the sun, it has been spoken in legend as “the beast that devours the sun”. And yet very oddly, it is weak to Fire! But maybe there’s something more to Solgaleo than meets the eye. Maybe if it Mega-Evolves, it will change its Type and Ability.
At a height of 3.4m, it’s hard to believe that Solgaleo weighs only 230kg. That’s just too light! But then again, Pokémon like Onix and Wailord are also too light for their size so it’s probably nothing new. Given its weight though, you’d be able to hit Solgaleo with Grass Knot and Low Kick at 120 power!
Full Metal Body is an Ability unique to Solgaleo. With this, Solgaleo’s stats “won’t be affected by an opponent’s move or Ability”. But isn’t this just the same as Clear Body? All this brings Metagross to mind, and it happens to be a Psychic/Steel type Pokémon as well! Solgaleo’s signature move is Sunsteel Strike which ignores the target’s Ability. That’s pretty similar to Mold Breaker and might be useful against opponents that use the Sturdy Ability!
Lunala

Category: Moone Pokémon
Height: 4m
Weight:120kg
Type: Psychic/Ghost
Ability: Shadow Shield
Lunala Type Weaknesses & Resistances
×4 | Ghost/Dark |
×2 | ー |
×1 | Fire/Water/Electric/Grass/Ice/Ground/Flying/Bug/Rock/Dragon/Steel/Fairy |
×1/2 | Poison/Psychic |
×1/4 | ー |
×0 | Normal/Fighting |
Lunala is a Psychic/Ghost type Pokémon, just like Hoopa Confined. It doesn’t have a lot of resistance and dual-type Pokémon bring to mind quadruple weakness. But this Pokemon isn’t so bad.
Lunala’s Ability is Shadow Shield which “reduces the damage from damage-dealing moves when HP is at maximum”. If this cuts damage by half like Multiscale, then it would definitely be powerful!
There isn’t much to Lunala’s resistance, so it being a Psychic/Ghost type may not be all that appealing. But with good base stats, this Pokémon might have real potential. But it might be a good idea to have Roost or Recover anyway!

The Pokémon Sun and Moon box art has finally been revealed and is set to be released on November 18, 2016! No doubt that the Pokémon shown in each version’s box art is its respective legendary and the promotional video showcases their powers!
While both Pokémon’s names and abilities haven’t been publicly announced, it is rumored that the legendary Pokémon in Pokémon Sun is called Solgaleo and in Pokémon Moon Lunala. These names had been filed by Nintendo for trademark registration at about the same time as the title logos for Pokémon Sun and Moon.

Like a noble lion, its white mane is streaked with patterns of red, reminiscent of the sun. It might be a Fire type Pokémon. It’s likely that it will have high offensive power and may particularly have strong Physical Attack. It might also have a special Fire-type Physical Attack akin to Sacred Fire.

Its form is shrouded in mystery and resembles a bat. Its head is like the moon and its body appears as the night sky cloaked in stars. Moonblast is a move typical of Fairy type Pokémon, and the moon itself is said to represent the Fairy type. Could it be that this is a legendary Fairy/Flying Pokémon? Unlike Solgaleo, this Pokémon might probably favor Special Attacks.
