Cappy the Hat
Cappy the Hat is Mario’s brand new partner in the latest game, Super Mario Odyssey. It can be thrown by Mario to possess other Non-Playable Characters (NPC) in the game and perform unique actions that are only available to certain NPCs. Mario can do a lot of stuff while he is in possession of the NPC such as basic movements like forward, backwards and sideways. Mario can possess different types of NPCs as well as inanimate objects. In the trailer, you can see that Mario’s hat was able to possess even a manhole. This brings about very wide gameplay and a lot of possibility on what the player can do.
Cappy’s Looks
Mario’s trusty hat in its original form looks like a white top hat with great big eyes containing red pupils. It then transforms to Mario’s original red hat that is the very embodiment of our favorite character. Cappy can also be changed into different forms like a sombrero, builder hat, an employee hat, a fedora and many other options.
Cappy’s Capabilities
Note as previously mentioned, Mario’s trusty hat can possess different types of NPCs that range from people in the Metro Kingdom, to the highly anticipated T-Rex possession. This brings a lot of possibilities as Mario can also possess even electricity providing him the chance to go through wires. You can also see a hat on top of the NPC Mario possesses as an indicator that you are currently possessing it. With this in mind, NPCs that have hats on them cannot be possessed however. This includes the mayor herself.
You can however have endless possibilities with other possessions of NPCs as they have unique capabilities that they are able to bring exclusively on their own. It wasn’t clear yet if you can possess birds and have the ability to fly, but if ever you would, travelling would be less tasking and be more enjoying along the process.
Ridiculous as it sounds, Cappy Mario Odyssey should be the name of the game as Mario’s trusty partner helps more than he bargained for.
