How to Get Smithing Stones in Elden Ring

Smithing Stones are a type of material used to upgrade weapons in Elden Ring. They are relatively hard to come by during the early stages of the game so taking the time to look for them is important if you want to increase the damage output of your armaments.

Types of Smithing Stones

Throughout the game, you may obtain Smithing Stones and Somber Smithing Stones. The first is used to temper most types of armaments while the second is required to upgrade weapons with unique properties and skills.

Where to Find Smithing Stones

Found at Various Locations

Smithing Stones and Somber Smithing Stones are typically found in chests or on corpses in various areas of the game. You obtain one as early as when you reach the Church of Elleh that houses a smithing table. Be sure to do as much exploring to fully upgrade your weapon.

Dropped by Defeated Enemies

Smithing Stones and Somber Smithing Stones can also be obtained from enemies as random or non-random loot. Below are the enemies that drop the material and where to find them in the game.

Where to Buy Smithing Stones

Can be purchased from the Twin Maiden Husks at Roundtable Hold after giving them the Smithing Stone Miner’s Bell Bearing.

The Twin Maiden Husks will start selling an unlimited stock of Smithing Stone (1) and Smithing Stone (2) once you give them the Smithing Stone Miner’s Bell Bearing. The item can be obtained by defeating the Crystalian boss at the Raya Lucaria Crystal Tunnel. You can reach location by going north from Academy Gate Town Site of Grace (southern section of Liurnia of the Lakes),

Where to Buy Somber Smithing Stones

Purchased from Inji found on the western section of Liurnia of the Lakes,

Inji, a non-hostile giant NPC will sell you Somber Smithing Stone (1) and Somber Smithing Stone (2) when you talk to him near The Road to the Manor Site of Grace.
