  • Aim for at least 20 Vitality (optimum max HP).
  • Vigor should be raised to at least 10, with additional points invested for using heavier weapon combos and special weapons.
  • You can increase Capacity throughout the game as you always gain +3 load limit (no soft cap).
  • Motivity and Technique should not go higher than 40.
  • Advance should not go higher than 30.

Technique Build Overview

The Technique build in Lies of P is suited for using either one-handed or two two-handed weapons with good scaling in the Technique stat. Because of the diversity of weapons that work well with a Technique build, playstyles can vary widely, especially given the freedom of adopting different weapon combos in the game. Many Technique-scaling weapons also have incredible range and are swung at angles that can hit multiple enemies, further improving their usability in any situation.

There are no real drawbacks to going for a Technique build. Players who prefer to wield heavier weapons may need to get used to their chosen armaments wind-up and recovery speed to avoid taking as much damage as possible.

Primary Stats Vitality, Vigor, Technique
Weapons Swords, Greatswords, Blunts, Daggers
Starting Combat Style Path of the Bastard: Technique
Strengths
  • Sheer variety of viable weapons opens numerous possibilities for experimentation, especially with weapon combos.
  • Usable weapons range from easy-to-use one-handed armaments to those that require a more “technical” approach.
  • Many Technique weapons have very good range and movesets.
  • Very good build for beginners and soulslike veterans alike.
Weaknesses
  • Heavy-weapon builds experience the same disadvantages as Motivity builds (slow attack speed, long attack recovery time).
  • Generally loses out to Motivity builds in terms of single-attack damage (with some exceptions).

Stat Progression

Level 10 (Initial Stats)

Stat Value
Vitality 8
Vigor 12
Capacity 11
Motivity 11
Technique 5
Advance 6

When going for a Technique build, you should choose the Path of the Bastard: Technique Combat Style as this has the highest initial Technique stat out of all starting Combat Memories. You also start with the more stamina compared to the Path of the Cricket and Path of the Sweeper but at the cost of having the lowest initial Vitality (max HP) in the game.

Level 30

Stat Value
Vitality 18 (+10)
Vigor 12
Capacity 12 (+5)
Motivity 5
Technique 16 (+5)
Advance 6

At around level 30, increase your max HP by focusing on raising your Vitality as shown in the table above. Then, put about 5 points each to Capacity and Technique. The former will allow you to wield heavier weapon combos that deal more damage while leveling up Technique will also improve attack power scaling.

Level 50

Stat Value
Vitality 20 (+2)
Vigor 15 (+3)
Capacity 12
Motivity 5
Technique 31 (+15)
Advance 6

As you approach level 50, try to get Vitality and Vigor to at least 20 and 15 respectively. Then, dump all points into Technique to further improve weapon damage.  If you do not intend to use the Carrier’s Amulet (available in Chapter 4), you could try putting some points into Capacity if your current load is beyond the normal range.

Bone-Cutting Sawblade + Dancer’s Curved Sword Handle

Builds that use Technique as the primary damage stat should go for the Bone-Cutting Sawblade + Dancer’s Curved Sword Handle setup. This weapon combo features high damage output (Bone-Cutting Sawblade) and a moveset with exceptional range and ease-of-use (Dancer’s Curved Sword Handle). You can also easily mow down enemies with its forward-lunging staggered attack that is very effective at mid range.

The Dancer’s Curved Sword Handle has B and C scaling for Technique and Motivity respectively which means that quality builds can also get good results wielding this assembly.

“A saw blade made by modifying a laborer puppet’s equipment. It is so bulky that it doesn’t see much use, and is coated in rust.

“A crescent curved sword handle used by dancers of the east. An eye-catching decoration hangs from it, fitting for a sword dance.

Dance, moonlight, dance. Pray that my love returns when the sand scatters. But take care that my love’s head does not fall along with the tears.” – A poem left behind by an eastern sword dancer

Two Dragons Sword

The Two Dragons Sword is among the best special weapons to use for evasive Technique builds, owing to the katana’s impressively agile moveset and the highest Technique scaling (A) out of all special weapons in the game. You can also use the Two Dragons Sword’s Wind of Swords Fable Art to unleash a powerful horizontal wave that travels a good distance forward. These traits make this already formidable weapon highly versatile against different types of enemies encountered during the main story.

Players who thrive on a technical approach to combat will love the Two Dragon’s Sword charge move as it lets you perform a devastating counter and riposte when timed with an enemy’s attack.

“A precious sword that was at the Grand Exhibition gallery. They say it was the saber of a commander from a quiet eastern land.

The sea remembers the vow of the warrior. The general who rose up with the dragon to protect the people claimed a lonely victory in dozens of wars.”

Puppet Ripper

The Puppet Ripper combines both good attack speed and one of the best effective ranges in the game. This scythe weapon has an incredible moveset of far-reaching diagonal and horizontal slashes. The Puppet Ripper has a B and C scaling for Technique and Motivity respectively, making it lean more towards Technique builds, though quality builds can also get results from using it.

What makes Puppet Ripper truly stand out, however, is its set of Fable Arts which are the Quick Upward Slash and Storm Spinning Slash. The first is a high-damaging single rising slash with good start up and recovery speed.

Storm Spinning Slash, meanwhile, lets you spin the weapon multiple times to hit all surrounding targets in a massive radius. This is useful for keeping most regular enemies that attack in groups at bay or for rapidly hitting human bosses who you can outrange.

Krat has a legend about a grinning hedonist murderer. They say his heart was made of clockwork.”

Trident of the Covenant

The Trident of the Covenant is another special weapon that technical players can choose to use in the game. This polearm’s moveset consists of different thrust and sweeping attacks that all have very good range. The Trident of the Covenant scales with both Technique (B) and Motivity (C) and boasts a massive critical hit rate of 30. For best results, try equipping the Assassin’s Amulet when wielding this weapon to maximize crit damage as well.

The most unique feature of the Trident of the Covenant, however, is its Link Rush Stab Fable Art which lets you perform a jumping stab that deals massive damage and force the enemy into the staggerable state. Having access to the Guard Parry Fable Art, meanwhile, adds a bit more versatility to this weapon by giving you an option to deflect and counter telegraphed enemy attacks.
