How to Perfect Guard (Parry) Guide for Lies of P

What is Perfect Guard?

Perfect Guard is an extremely powerful defensive move in Lies of P that allows you to complete negate an enemy’s attack with the chance of stunning them or breaking their weapon. Perfect Guard is essentially the game’s version of a parry found in many soulslike games but is significantly more useful throughout the game.

Perfect Guard Input

To perform a Perfect Guard, press the Guard button at the exact moment that the enemy’s attack is about to hit you. If done correctly, you will not take any damage, though you will still expend stamina for the blocking. Perfect Guard can also destroy the enemy’s armament or force them into the Staggerable status (briefly leaving them open for follow up attacks).

Fury Attacks

Certain enemies, especially bosses, can perform a Fury Attack that cannot be dodge or blocked normally. The only way to counter them is to perform a Perfect Guard or be completely out of range of the move. Because of this, it is recommended to spend time practicing Perfect Guard as you go through the game’s main story.

An enemy will glow red when it is readying a Fury Attack so be sure to watch out for it at all times during battle.

Tips for Perfect Guard

Get familiar with enemy attack timings.

Being able to Perfect Guard successfully comes down to how well you can time the Guard button as the enemy throws out an attack. Try to experiment by fighting as many kinds of enemies as you can.

Eventually, you will notice that some attacks are much easier to Perfect Guard than others, allowing you to identify wind-up animations for them in combat.

Know when to dodge instead of Perfect Guard.

Keep in mind that you do not have to Perfect Guard every attack that the enemy does.  Against certain enemy attacks, dodging may give you better chances of avoiding damage or put you in a better position to land a Fatal Attack before the enemy recover.

As you fight against the game’s variety of enemies, try to pick out which moves you are better off dodging or Perfecting Guarding until you are completely comfortable taking down your opponent without getting hit.

Practice Perfect Guard at Cerasani Alley

You can practice Perfect Guard near the Wandering Merchant who is found in Cerasani Alley just before the Parade Master boss. There will be a puppet here that you can fight to get familiar with doing Perfect Guards outside of the game’s tutorial section. You will also not take damage if the puppet hits you, making it a good spot to learn Perfect Guard and other actions in combat.
