What happens when you die in the game?

Dying in Lies of P causes you to drop all of your accumulated Ergo (which is then called “Death Ergo”) on the spot where you were killed. You will then respawn at the nearest Stargazer checkpoint from where you died.

Death Mechanics

All enemies respawn after you are revived at the Stargazer.

Once you restart from the Stargazer, all enemies that you killed in the area will also respawn. This excludes area bosses and story bosses that are only fought once during each playthrough.

The Death Ergo’s amount decreases as you take damage after respawning.

Whenever you suffer damage after respawning, the amount of Ergo contained in your Death Ergo decreases. Because of this, it is recommended to avoid battle entirely if you only intend to get back the Ergo you lost.

The Death Ergo disappears if you die again without collecting it.

If you die before reclaiming your dropped Ergo, it will be lost forever. There is no way to get your Death Ergo back when this happens which is very disappointing if you had accumulated and lost a hefty sum.

Useful Tips to Avoid Losing a Lot of Ergo

Spend Ergo as often as you can.

It is highly recommended to spend Ergo on leveling up (increasing your stats), purchasing items, and availing of other features and services whenever you can. Doing so is especially important before entering boss areas, after defeating bosses, or venturing into new areas with a lot of unfamiliar enemies.
