Many stream viewers compared the game to Pokemon Go, another popular mobile game made by Nintendo, due to how it uses AR technology on mobile phones. The map shown above shares a number of similarities Pokemon Go’s map, though distinctly made in the Dragon Quest style.
The game’s mascot is Compass Slime, a friendly monster who helps you learn the basics of playing Dragon Quest Walk. This slime, Suramichi, accompanies the player in their adventure.
Gameplay
In the press conference, presenters played the game at Tokyo Tower. There, they showed how to battle monsters nearby and engage in quests. The hosts also walked around Tokyo Tower to show how the game follows your movements in the real world. Aside from monsters, some pots appeared on the map. Tapping these allowed them to break the pots to find items hidden inside.
As the presenters approached the quest area in the real world, they became able to tap it in the game and begin a scenario. Here they fought a boss monster and were rewarded with a bounty for clearing the quest after finishing
After the demo, viewers were shown that you can build a party of up to four people. These characters all had different jobs, though whether these were other player characters or NPCs is uncertain. The presenters did mention that players can play together if in the same area. Famous landmarks in Japan also make an appearance in the game.
Players can build a house in the game that they can decorate and personalize. Players can also see other players’ houses if they are friends in the game.
