Increasing your Affection rating in Pokemon Refresh [Pokemon Sun and Moon]

Improve the bond with your Pokemon through Pokemon Refresh

You can increase the Affection with your Pokemon using Pokemon Refresh. Through this feature, you can pet, groom, and feed your Pokemon after a battle or during your free time. Furthermore, you can also cure any status effects that your Pokemon has through grooming, so you won’t have to use any items that do the same after a battle.

The advantages of raising your Pokemon’s Affection

When the Affection of your Pokemon rises, the experience that it gets in battles also increases. In addition, it will also increase your Pokemon’s Evasion stats, so raising the Affection of your Pokemon is valuable as it gives many bonuses during battle.

Affection （Number of Hearts）	Effects
2 Hearts	・EXP gained in battles is x 1.2
3 Hearts	・The Pokemon may still have 1HP after receiving a blow that would normally make it faint
4 Hearts	・May evade the enemy’s attack. ・Status effects may be healed after the turn ends.
5 Hearts	・Higher chance of landing a critical hit

How to increase a Pokemon’s Affection

1. Feed it with Poke Beans
2. Care for it (removing dirt from its body and curing its status effects)
3. Pet it

A Pokemon will be happy when you do all of these, and hearts will come out of its body. When the total number of hearts are now more than the previous number of hearts, its Affection will go up. When the Affection increases, the Pokemon will express its happiness through the screen.

Confirming the Pokemon’s Affection

Affection

You can see your Pokemon’s Affection in a chart located in the “Pokemon Select” screen of Pokemon Refresh

Full Stomach

You can also see your Pokemon’s fullness level in the chart. Once it reaches its maximum capacity (5 beans), it will not eat anymore.

Petting

Keep petting your Pokemon until small hearts appear in the screen. The small hearts will disappear once the Enjoyment gauge (indicated by the musical notes in the chart) reaches its maximum capacity.

Affection in Pokemon Refresh is different from Friendship Rank

As opposed to affection, friendship (happiness) is the feature wherein you can evolve certain Pokemon (ex. Pichu and Munchlax) once the gauge reaches a required level.
